Operating Doubly-Fed Induction Generators as Virtual Synchronous Generators

This invention discloses a system and method to operate a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) as a grid-friendly virtual synchronous generator (VSG). It comprises a DFIG modeled as a virtual differential gear that links a rotor shaft driven by a prime mover, a virtual stator shaft coupled with a virtual synchronous generator G and a virtual slip shaft coupled with a virtual synchronous motor M, and a variable frequency drive that behaves as a virtual synchronous motor-generator set to regulate the speed of the virtual synchronous motor M so that the speed of the virtual stator shaft, i.e., the speed of the virtual synchronous generator G, is within a narrow band around the grid frequency even when the rotor shah: speed changes. As a result, a grid-connected DFIG can be controlled to behave like a virtual synchronous generator without using a PLL.

Oil-feeding device for engine crankshaft

An oil-feeding device for a crankshaft where the amount of lubricant oil leaking from supporting areas of main journal portions is reduced without increasing friction of bearing members against the main journal portions. The oil-feeding device for a crankshaft includes upper bearing members and lower bearing members. The upper and lower bearing members have a half hollow cylindrical shape, are provided with crush relief portions at both ends, and jointly encompass main journal portions of a crank shaft. The upper bearing members have circumferentially extending oil grooves provided in the faces opposite the main journal portions, the grooves penetrating through oil passages of a cylinder block. The lower bearing members do not have oil grooves. The oil grooves do not extend in the crush relief portions, and therefore the leakage of lubricant oil, fed to the oil grooves, to the areas of the crush relief portions is suppressed.

Method for viscosity reduction of clogging hydrocarbons in oil well

Method for reducing the viscosity of clogging hydrocarbons in an oil well. The method utilizes a tube type heat exchanger enabling heated gases to pass through feed water coils to heat the water to a predetermined temperature and at a pressure which prevents any flashing or phase change of the feed water within the heat exchanger. From the heat exchanger the heated feed water passes through a conduit which empties into the oil well. The well is open to atmosphere so that the feed water undergoes a phase change or flashing when it is introduced into the oil well. The resulting combined steam and hot water reduce the viscosity of the hydrocarbons sufficiently to facilitate their flow out of the oil well.

An optical dynamic gain equalization filter (DGEF) comprises a planar arrangement of preferably “perfectly sampled” (or alternatively oversampled) waveguide grating routers (WGR's) connected by individual optical paths each containing a Mach-Zehnder interferometer operated in a push-pull fashion so that a positive phase change in one interferometer arm and a corresponding negative phase change in the other interferometer arm produces a desired change in attenuation while, at the same time, the overall phase of the optical signals after passing through the Mach-Zehnder interferometer is kept constant with respect to the adjacent paths. Alternatively, the above-described arrangement is effectively “cut in half”, and its size effectively also reduced accordingly, using a mirror placed at the midpoint of the device and an appropriate circulator to separate the input and output optical signals.
