Early transparency detection routine for inkjet printing

A system of classifying incoming media entering an inkjet printing mechanism identifies transparency media without requiring any special manufacturer markings. The media is first optically scanned using a blue-violet light at an initial intensity to obtain both diffuse and specular reflectance data. If useable, the data is compared with known values to classify the media so an optimum print mode tailored for the particular media is used. The early transparency detection system avoids time-consuming further steps trying to classify the media as photo media, plain paper, and the like, and facilitates fast printing of transparencies, which can be critical in the business environment when making last minute changes for a presentation. A printing mechanism constructed to implement this method is also provided.

Optical devices with reduced chromatic aberration

This invention relates to an optical device such as a soft or rigid contact lens, intra ocular lens (IOL), ocular insert, or spectacle lens that improves visual acuity by reducing chromatic aberration. Chromatic aberration is reduced by filtering or blocking ultraviolet and high energy blue / violet light below about 455 nm and red and infrared light above about 655 nm. This is accomplished by including in the polymer formulations blue / violet absorbing colorants and ultraviolet light absorbers to filter or block light below about 455 nm; and red absorbing colorants and infrared absorbers to filter or block light above about 655 nm. When these materials are used for wavefront designed lenses, vision better than 20 / 20 is attainable.

Further, the red phosphor is arranged such that the distance between the red phosphor and a light source is shorter than the distance between the green phosphor and the light source, which makes it possible to perform color adjustment merely by adjusting an amount of the phosphors, to thereby make it possible to provide a lighting device of high luminance.

An LED array includes three or more strings of bare LEDs mounted in close proximity to each other on a substrate. Luminescent materials deposited on each of the LED chips in the array emit light of different wavelength ranges that are of longer wavelengths than and in response to light emissions from the LED chips. A user interface enables users to control the currents applied by the control circuit to the strings of LEDs to achieve a Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) value and hue that are desired by users, with CIE chromaticity coordinates that lie on, or near to the black body radiation curve. Preferably a transparent material is dispensed on the substrate between the LED semiconductor chips to substantially surround the LED semiconductor chips. Thereafter at least one layer containing luminescent materials is applied on the LED semiconductor chips and the transparent material.

Mosquito trap mediated by filtrated visible light emitting diode and mosquito bait

The present invention provides a LED mosquito trap lamp combined with a mosquito bait. The mosquito trap lamp uses ultra-violet light and the mosquito bait for attracting the mosquitoes, while the ultra-violet light is provided by using visible light LEDs in combination of the filter. Because the ultra-violet light is provided by using the visible light wavelength LEDs in combination of the filter, the costs of the mosquito trap lamp can be reduced and the luminance can be maintained. The light (L2) obtained after the violet light (L1-1) passes through the fluorescent film (230), becomes white light because green color component light generated from the fluorescent substance is mixed with the violet light (L1-1). On the other hand, on a lower surface side, the violet light L1-2 is used as illuminating light.
