Mechanism for authentication and authorization for network and service access

There is proposed a network access authentication and authorization mechanism in which an authentication session in an authentication, authorization and accounting procedure for a user equipment for providing an initial network access is executed. A first identification element related to the user equipment is obtained. Then, a user credential validation procedure is performed wherein a second identification element related to the user equipment or related to a user of the user equipment is obtained. The obtained first and second identification elements are processed for determining whether a match between the first and second identification elements exists. In addition, the authentication session executed for the user equipment is identified on the basis of the result of the processing of the first and second identification elements. Then, a change of an authorization of the user equipment is executed for providing a modified network access.

Self-Adaptive Cement Systems

A self-healing cement system includes cement, water and at least one additive that swells in contact with water from reservoir or from formation in the case of a structural failure in the set cement to provide a physical barrier in the zone of failure. Examples of such material include particles of super-absorbent polymer. These additives have the effect of making the cement self-healing in the event of physical failure or damage such as micro-annuli. The self healing property is produced by the contact of the water itself, the potential repair mechanism is thus activated if and when needed in case of start of loss of zonal isolation. Several super-absorbent polymers have been identified such as polyacrylamide, modified crosslinked poly(meth)acrylate and non-solute acrylic polymers.

Identification band using a conductive fastening for enhanced security and functionality

An identification device formed from a band of material and a non-reusable tamper-resistant fastening arranged to join opposite end regions of the band. A Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) transponder is disposed in the band. The transponder includes and RFID circuit, such as may be formed on an integrated circuit (IC) chip, and an antenna. In the present invention, the tamper-resistant fastening serves additional functions beyond securing the opposite end regions of the band together. Namely, the fastening can be made of a conductive material and designed to create electrical continuity between multiple conductors to enable or disable certain circuit functionality. In one variation, this continuity allows the excess tail portion of the wristband to be cut without disrupting circuit functionality. In another variation, the fastening mechanism is designed to crimp conductors together. In yet another embodiment, the RFID circuit itself is wholly or partially formed within the fastening mechanism to increase the better protect and support the circuit, as well as to make it more difficult to defeat the tamper-resistant functionality of the device.

Nanoparticle formulations with enhanced mucosal penetration

Hypotonic formulations were evaluated for delivering water-soluble drugs and for drug delivery with muco-inert (that is, non-adhesive) mucus-penetrating nanoparticles (MPP). Hypotonic formulations markedly increased the rate at which drugs and MPP reached the epithelial surface, including deep into the vaginal folds. Minimally hypotonic formulations, preferably ranging from 20-220 mOsm / kg, provided rapid and uniform delivery of MPP to the entire vaginal surface, with minimal risk of epithelial toxicity. Data also show that there is a higher osmolality in the colon, such that vehicles with an osmolality above that of blood plasma (generally considered isotonic at ˜300 mOsm / kg), still lead to improvements in distribution in the colon due to rapid, osmotically-induced fluid absorption. The range for improved colon distribution with a hypotonic vehicle in the colon is ˜20 mOsm / kg-450 mOsm / kg.

Therapeutic field generator device and method

A portable therapeutic field generator device (10) generates a reduced magnetic field component for a relatively large electric field by virtue that adjacent conductive tracks in a radiating element (40, 50) conduct electrical current in opposing directions. The device (10) includes a processor (12) that, in response to a control algorithm stored in memory (14), supplies a pulse wave (22) to a circuit containing the radiating element (40, 50). The pulse establishes generation of a base heartbeat reference having a frequency around a nominal heart rate. At periodic times, the base heart beat reference is supplemented by mutually exclusive periods of alpha wave, theta wave and delta wave generation (or other selected frequencies below about 200 Hz) based on selected brainwave frequencies for these waves, with the pulses having a duration generally corresponding to that ascribed to neuron depolarisation pulses. The device (10) cycles through multiple cycles (88) and, dependent upon the effect that is desired, may see delta wave frequencies follow theta wave frequencies that follow alpha wave frequencies. Delays may exist between transitions between the generated waves, with delta wave generation occurring no later than sixty minutes from commencement of alpha wave production for a mode that induces sleep. Delta waves production has, typically, a duration that is twice that of either the alpha or theta wave production. A second mode of operation sees longer pulse times for higher frequencies—between about 100 Hz and 500 Hz—associated with muscle stimulation.
