125 results about "Digital computation" patented technology

Digital computation is computation using digital representations; analog computation is computation using analog representations. While this distinction is largely understood in practice, a precise account of the difference has been of some philosophical interest.

Continuous blood pressure measuring device

The invention provides a continuous blood pressure measuring device. The method for measuring blood pressure by the device comprises the following steps of: selecting features used for blood pressure equation estimation from a large number of extracted features by feature selection, sending the selected features into a decision system, and determining equations used for estimating the blood pressure from blood pressure simultaneous equations; selecting the features used for estimating coefficients of the blood pressure equations from the features which are extracted from feature extraction by feature selection, and estimating the coefficients of the blood pressure equations by statistical estimation, digital computation and other methods; and finally selecting the features used for estimating the blood pressure from the features which are extracted from the feature extraction by feature selection, and substituting the selected features into the blood pressure equations to estimate blood pressure. By a multi-feature-based pulse wave velocity method and a blood pressure simultaneous equation establishment method, the blood pressure estimation is performed by artificial intelligence, pattern recognition and other ways to ensure that not only the measurement accuracy of the blood pressure estimation is improved but also a complicated parameter calibrating process is avoided.

Quantum Fourier transform based information transmission system and method

A method of data compression and transmission include splitting a wave function representative of an input data set into an arbitrarily oriented elliptical polarization state and a comparator wave function state, the comparator wave function state being transmitted to a detector. A quantum Fourier transform is performed on the arbitrarily oriented elliptical polarization state to yield a quantum computational product. A quantum Hadamard transform is performed on the quantum computational product to yield one of two possible quantum particle outputs. The input data set is reconstructed based upon the coincident arrival of the comparator wave function state and one of the two quantum particle outputs. A method is performed on either a quantum computer or a digital computer. An optical bench with appropriate electronics is particularly well suited to function as a quantum computer for the compression and transmission of data corresponding to sound.

Coherent optical receiver

A coherent optical receiver of the invention combines local oscillator light having orthogonal polarization components in which the optical frequencies are different to each other, and received signal light, in an optical hybrid circuit, and then photoelectrically converts this in two differential photodetectors. Then this is converted to a digital signal in an AD conversion circuit, and computation processing is executed in a digital computing circuit using the digital signal, to estimate received data. At this time, the optical frequency difference between the orthogonal polarization components of the local oscillator light is set so as to be smaller than two times the signal light band width, and larger than a spectrum line width of the signal light source and the local oscillator light source. As a result, it is possible to realize a small size polarization independent coherent optical receiver that is capable of receiving high speed signal light.

System and method of digital system performance enhancement

The present invention performs a digital computation with a lower than worst-case-required clock period (i.e., a faster clock), and at the same time performs the same computation with a larger, worst-case-assumed, clock period (i.e., a slower clock) on a second system with identical hardware. The outputs from the computations are compared to determine if an error has occurred. If there is a difference in the two answers, the faster computation must be in error (i.e., a miscalculation has occurred), and the system uses the answer from the slower system. In one embodiment, the present invention utilizes two copies of the slower system that each run half as fast as the main system. However, the two copies produce results in the aggregate at the same rate as the main system, which is running at a much faster rate than possible without the invention. Hence the present invention improves performance (e.g., speed), albeit with more hardware. Advantageously, the present invention dynamically adapts to achieve the best performance possible under the actual operating conditions.

Encoder output signal correction apparatus and method

An offset error, an amplitude error, a phase error and a third harmonic component contained in two-phase sinusoidal signals are removed using relatively simple digital computations. An offset error contained in two-phase sinusoidal signals with a phase difference output from an encoder is detected and corrected. Then, an amplitude error contained in the offset-corrected two-phase sinusoidal signals is detected and corrected. Subsequently, a phase error contained in the amplitude-corrected two-phase sinusoidal signals is detected and corrected. Further, a third harmonic distortion contained in the phase-corrected two-phase sinusoidal signals is detected and corrected. Each correction step includes detecting an error from an ideal Lissajous waveform contained in the corrected two-phase sinusoidal signals, and adding the detected error to an accumulatively added last value to yield a new correction coefficient, thereby dynamically updating the correction coefficient.

The disclosed systems and methods transform descriptive causal models into digital computer simulation models based on information obtained from crowdsourcing. This may include interviewing experts to collect descriptive information that is used to assemble causal descriptive models, which can be represented as graphs of nodes connected by edges. Node values may represent concepts and edge weights represent their causal relationships. Crowdsourcing is used to collect feedback about the causal descriptive models. The feedback is used to calculate edge weights that are incorporated into causal simulation models for use during model processing runs. A digital computer simulation is completed when node values reach steady states after model processing runs. A computer visualization tool can then be used to analyze outcome spaces produced by digital computer simulations. For example, digital computer simulations can generate decision spaces that are used to determine preferable courses of action in different situations.

Reduced area digital sigma-delta modulator

A digital sigma-delta modulator requiring minimal die area and dissipating minimal power is formed with a plurality of integration stages coupled in tandem between an input node and an output node. The bit width of signals in the integration stages is progressively reduced from the first to the last integration stage without compromising modulator accuracy. A quantizer between the last integration stage and the output node provides the final reduction of signal bit width. The gain of the modulator feedforward and feedback paths are integer powers of two to further simplify the digital computation. In an exemplary implementation, three integration stages to form a third-order modulator are coupled in tandem between the input node and the output node. A controller for an adjustable-frequency oscillator includes a first counter supplied with a stop-count value to count adjustable-frequency oscillator cycles divided by the ratio of desired frequency to reference oscillator frequency, to produce a stop signal when the first counter reaches the stop-count value. A second counter counts cycles of a reference oscillator starting from an initial number related to the stop-count value. The second counter stops counting and produces an end-count when the second counter receives the stop signal from the first counter. A resonant tank circuit includes a bank of capacitors with switches to select resonant tank circuit capacitors. The switches are selectively controlled using the end-count in the second counter. The stop-count value is set for the first counter so that the end count number in the second counter using a ones-complement binary format can be used to iteratively set the switches with minimal digital computation.

Digital computation method involving euclidean division

A computational method for implementation in an electronic digital processing system performs integer division upon very large (multi-word) operands. An approximated reciprocal of the divisor is obtained by extracting the two most significant words of the divisor, adding one to the extracted value and dividing from a power of two out to two significant words. Multiplying this reciprocal value by a remainder (initialized as the dividend) obtains a quotient value, which is then decremented by a random value. The randomized quotient is multiplied by the actual divisor, and decremented from the remainder. The quotient value is accumulated to obtain updated quotient values. This process is repeated over a fixed number of rounds related to the relative sizes in words of the dividend and divisor. Each round corrects approximation and randomization errors from a preceding round.
