Methods, compositions and articles of manufacture involving cationic conjugated conformationally flexible polymers are provided. A method for the synthesis of cationic water-soluble polymers with linkages along the polymer main chain structure which disrupt the ability of the polymers to form extended-rod structures is provided. Such polymers may serve in the fabrication of novel optoelectronic devices and in the development of highly efficient biosensors. The invention further relates to the application of these polymers in assay methods.

The present invention is a robotic mobile platform vehicle that can be thrown into hostile or hazardous environments for gathering information and transmitting that information to a remotely located control station and a system comprising the robotic mobile platform. The system of the invention is adapted to provide it's operator with significant information without being exposed directly to actual or potential danger. One of the key features of the invention is that at least four imaging assemblies are mounted on the robotic platform and that the system has the processing ability to stitch the views taken by the four imaging devices together into an Omni-directional image, allowing simultaneous viewing of a 360 degree field of view surrounding the mobile platform. Another feature is that the system comprises a touch screen GUI and the robotic mobile platform is equipped with processing means and appropriate software. This combination enables the user to steer the robotic platform simply by touching an object in one of the displayed images that he wants to investigate. The robotic platform can then either point its sensors towards that object or, if so instructed, compute the direction to the object and travel to it without any further input from the user.

An economical, compact guide for introducing multiple bends in one or more planes in a pipe, conduit, or other tube-like item. The guide has a gauge section rotatably attached to a mounting section and is affixable by means of a non-deforming clamp to the end of a pipe segment to be bent. The gauge section has a bend-angle gauge and a bend-plane level. The bend-angle gauge is a plumb arm mounted so as to measure and indicate the bending of a pipe to any degree of bend. The bend-plane guide is a 360° level mounted on an upper face of the plumb arm. Multiple bends are made in the pipe segment without removing or re-aligning the guide. This ensures that the initial reference position is maintained throughout the bending process and ensures that all bends are in the proper bend-plane, thus avoiding "dogging" between successive bends. Multiple successive bend-planes also may be established without removing or re-aligning the guide on the pipe, by rotating the gauge section of the guide relative to the mounting section by the magnitude of the desired out-of-plane angle.

The present invention relates to a nano-scale MOS device having a saddle structure. Particularly, the invention relates to a high-density, high-performance MOS device having a novel structure capable of improving the scaling-down characteristic and performance of the MOS device, in which a channel and gate structure is formed in the shape of a saddle. The inventive MOS device is mainly characterized in that a channel region is recessed, a gate insulating film and a gate electrode are formed on the surface and sides of the recessed channel, and the gate electrode is self-aligned with the recessed channel. Namely, in the disclosed MOS device, a portion of the insulating film around the recessed channel is selectively removed to expose the surface and sides of the recessed channel. According to the present invention, the scaling-down characteristic of the device is excellent and current drive capability is greatly increased since a channel through which an electric current can flow is formed on the surface and sides of the recessed channel. Also, the ability of the gate electrode to control the channel is enhanced. Accordingly, the invention can improve device characteristics.

A structure is provided which includes first and second layers. The first and second layers are attached to each other by embedding or otherwise attaching at least one mechanically locking z pin to the first layer and then subsequently joining the protruding portion of the z pin to the second layer prior to the second layer being processed to a fully cured state. The z pin may have physical characteristics such as orientation, melting point and hardness as a function of the physical characteristics of the first and second layer and the forces subjected upon the first and second layers. For example, the z pin may define a longitudinal axis and be embedded within the first and second layers in alignment with an applied force subjected on the first and second layers. This ensures that the z-pin is subjected primarily to tensile forces which allows designs to better control the failure mode of the attached first and second layers.

A system and method for growing nanotubes out of carbon and other materials using CVD uses a catalytic transmembrane to separate a feedstock chamber from a growth chamber and provide catalytic material with separate catalytic surfaces to absorb carbon atoms from the feedstock chamber and to grow carbon nanotubes in the growth chamber. The catalytic transmembrane provides for greater flexibility to independently control both the gas environment and pressure in the chambers to optimize absorption and carbon growth and to provide instrumentation in the growth chamber for in-situ control of defects or observation of the carbon nanotube growth.

A system for use by a physically impaired driver for controlling a vehicle includes an actuator assembly operably coupled to the pedals. The actuator assembly includes a pair of electrical motors operable through a rack and linkage arrangement to depress the brake pedal, and a third electric motor operable through a rack and linkage arrangement to depress the accelerator pedal. The actuator assembly is pivotably mounted above the pedals to pivot when the brake pedal is depressed. A joystick controller is mounted to the vehicle and includes a platform with a grip and arm supports. The joystick controller is operable in a fore-aft direction to control braking and acceleration, and can be tilted side-to-side to operate the vehicle turn signals. The joystick controller includes features for keeping the controller clear of dust and debris and for channeling wiring associated with the turn signals.

A lightweight structural concrete with screw-ability and nail-ability similar to wood is composed of a non-structural and ultra lightweight aggregate such as expanded perlite or a combination of expanded perlite and polystyrene beads of a particular size distribution and volume amount, entrained air cells of another specific size distribution and volume amount, and dense cementitious composition of a cement binder, a fine grade structural filler no larger than concrete sand grade, a pozzolan, and optional micro-fibers for reinforcement. This structural concrete matrix is optimized to hold 13 gauge T-nails and bugle head wood screws with thread ranging from 8 to 11 threads per inch and diameter of 0.10″ to 0.137″. The resulting concrete will have consistent screw-ability and nail-ability similar to that of wood.

A beehive includes a column of stacked boxes which open onto each other at their tops and bottoms, with the column bearing a cap at its top and a floor at its bottom. A torque measuring device for determining properties such as viscosity, shearing force or concentration in liquids or suspensions. The device comprises two elastically connected concentric axles in the form of one external hollow axle through which an inner measuring axle extends, and an element responsive to the measured medium located on a distal end of the measuring axle. The motors are operated such that the axles rotate at generally constant speed and, simultaneously, the phase between the two are controlled irrespective of applied speed and torque. An ink container for an inkjet cartridge comprises spaced apart side walls, a front wall, a rear wall and a bottom wall, and a partition dividing the interior into three ink chambers. Each chamber includes an outlet port in the bottom wall, and the front wall and bottom wall lie in generally perpendicular planes, and a planer guide wall extends between and at an angle to the front and bottom walls. A novel rotatable seating arrangement for a motorized watercraft has an integral console with instrumentation and watercraft controls thereon to allow the watercraft's operator to control operation of the watercraft from one location, and to perform other functions, such as fishing without obstruction from the console and from the same position while retaining the ability to control the watercraft. The seating arrangement has a generally upright pedestal fixed to the watercraft's deck and a platform pivotally mounted atop the pedestal. A seat is fixed to the platform for supporting the operator in an upright seated position, the seat and platform being rotatable about a longitudinal axis of said pedestal to make available to the operator a 360 degree viewing area while operating the watercraft from the seated position. A locking system on the platform engages the pedestal for controlling rotation of the seat. A control console for carrying watercraft instrumentation and controls is fixed to the rotateable platform adjacent the seat within reach and view of the operator to allow operation of the watercraft while seated. The control console includes a left side portion to the left side of a seated operator and a right side portion to the right side of a seated operator, which side portions are located just above the height of the base of the seat to avoid interfering with the seated operator's use of hand-held equipment. An engine throttle and shift controller is located on the left or right side portion, and a steering controller is located on the other side portion, to allow the operator to operate the watercraft in the seated position regardless of the rotation of the seat.

An invention is disclosed for combating cancer. In vitro studies have shown that alpha-MSH inhibits the proliferation of various mesothelioma cell lines. The invention is directed to a system and method for combating cancer and, in a specific embodiment, mesothelioma. Use of a therapeutic composition containing alpha-MSH and/or derivatives of alpha-MSH is disclosed for treatments including but not limited to parenteral administrations, direct targeting of cancer cells, gene therapy and local administrations using a cannula. Certain derivatives of alpha-MSH, NDP-alpha-MSH for example, are particularly effective in combating growth in mesothelioma cell lines.
