A driving support system according to the present invention is provided with an actuator for steering steered wheels and performs a driving support control of a vehicle to apply an additional torque to a steering mechanism incorporating the steered wheels, by means of the actuator to steer the steered wheels. The driving support system has an image taking device for taking a forward image ahead the vehicle, a controller for driving the actuator to generate the torque on the steering mechanism on the basis of the forward image acquired by the image taking device, to perform the driving support control, a steering wheel torque detector for detecting a steering wheel torque on a steering wheel, and a control suppressor for prioritizing a steering operation by a driver to the driving support control when a magnitude of the steering wheel torque is not less than a predetermined value. The control suppressor sets the predetermined value so that the predetermined value in a case where a direction of the steering torque for the driving support control agrees with a direction of the steering wheel torque by the driver is larger than the predetermined value in a case where the direction of the steering torque does not agree with the direction of the steering wheel torque. This configuration enables the system to accurately grasp a driver's intension and to prioritize the steering operation by the driver more accurately when the steering operation by the driver should be prioritized to the driving support control.

Power supply stand output to the portable device is adjusted according to the power adjustment signals. Maximum power supply stand output is limited to a power output threshold value. The portable device compares the power received from the power supply stand to the required power. When the received power is lower than the required power, the portable device sends a power adjustment signal to the power supply stand, which is an increase-power-request signal. When the received power is greater than the required power, the portable device sends a decrease-power-request signal to the power supply stand. The power supply stand adjusts output and limits it to the power output threshold value. When continuous output of increase-power-request signals from the portable device is detected over a preset time period, a foreign object is determined to be on the power supply stand.

A thickness measuring method, which measures the thickness of the wafer of wafer 7 in polishing a surface, comprises the steps of irradiating the thin film-like material during the surface polishing from a backside with probe light, measuring a reflectance spectrum with a dispersion type multi-channel spectroscope using a photodiode array which has particularly high sensitivity to light having a wavelength ranging from 1 to 2.4 μm, and calculating the thickness on the basis of a wave form of the reflectance spectrum. The surface polishing is performed while the thickness of the wafer 7 is measured by the above-described thickness measuring method, and the polishing is finished when the thickness of the wafer 7 reaches a target thickness.
