Cellulose acetate and dope containing the same

Using the dope containing the following cellulose acetate (1), (2), or (3), a film is prepared by the casting process:(1) a cellulose acetate having carboxyl groups binding to at least one member selected from the group consisting of a cellulose acetate and a hemicellulose acetate, wherein at least a part of said carboxyl groups are in an acidic form;(2) a cellulose acetate containing at least one member selected from the group consisting of an acid having an acid dissociation exponent pKa of 1.93 to 4.50 in water, an alkali metal salt of said acid and an alkaline earth metal of said acid; or(3) a cellulose acetate containing an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal wherein the total content of an alkaline metal and an alkaline earth metal in 1 gram of the cellulose acetate is from an effective amount to 5.5×10−6 equivalent (in terms of ion equivalent). The above cellulose acetate is also useful for spinning process. The cellulose acetate includes a cellulose diacetate and a cellulose triacetate. The cellulose acetate of the present invention has high film-releasability from a support and excellent optical characteristics.

Also provided is a water-soluble resin composition which comprise (i') 100 parts by weight of a polyvinyl alcohol polymer having a 1,2-glycol linkage content of at least 1.8 mole percent and a degree of hydrolysis of 92 to 99 mole percent, (ii') 1 to 50 parts by weight of a plasticizer and (iv') 1 to 20 parts by weight of an inorganic filler, optionally together with (iii') 5 to 50 parts by weight of a monosaccharide and / or polysaccharide. Further provided are water-soluble films produced by using those water-soluble resin compositions.

The method according to invention comprises providing a molten thermoforming polymer film (1) from an extruder (2), driving a molten polymer film (1) through a nip (3) wherein the molten thermoforming polymer film (1) is contacted with a cooling roller (4) supporting a master film with a surface relief pattern (5) and a pressure roller (6), so that micro- or nanostructures are replicated onto the polymer film by the action of pressure and cooling at the nip. The master film is a polymeric master film it is driven continuously from the master film feed roller (9) through the nip (3) to the receiver roller (10).
