The present patent of invention relates to an innovative composition with excellent non-flammable and self-extinguishing properties for composite materials, from which many useful molded materials can be produced, and also to the provision of inorganic compounds coated with an
inert material, defined as a material that does not exhibit reactivity with the inorganic compounds. The present invention provides organic materials and, more particularly, relates to highly polymeric materials having excellent fire-retardant properties, such as those employed in the manufacture of molding and
extrusion compositions, film sheets, fibers, textiles, papers, surface or
coating compositions, impregnating agents,
solid forms, rubbers, and the like. The invention may also be applied especially to wet-spun and dry-spun fibers, such as
acrylic fiber,
polyvinyl alcohol fiber and
viscose rayon, and melt-spun fibers, such as nylon,
polyester fiber, and other fibers, such as di- or triacetate
cellulose fibers. The invention is also applicable to plastics and films, by adding said inorganic compounds prior to molding. Another noteworthy feature of this invention is that when, for example, fibers produced by the process are ignited, no
toxic gas is generated before the fire is extinguished.
