Method, apparatus and computer program product for determination of noise in mixed signal systems

A simulation system is described for computing the overall signal generated in a substrate by a digital system comprising a plurality of gates associated with the substrate, wherein each gate is configured to perform a switching event. Output of a transistor-level model is compared with output of a lumped circuit model for each gate and the substrate, and signal contributions from each gate and switching event are determined based on the comparison. The system determines switching event signals for each of the plurality of gates. The signal contributions and the switching event signals are combined, and a combined lumped circuit model is derived based on a combination of lumped circuit models of the plurality of gates. The overall signal is computed based on the combined gate signal contributions and switching event signals, which are configured as an input to the combined lumped circuit model.

An interactive display system including a wireless pointing device including a camera or other video capture system. The pointing device captures images displayed by the computer, including one or more human-imperceptible positioning targets. The positioning targets are presented as patterned modulation of the intensity (e.g., variation in pixel intensity) in a display frame of the visual payload, followed by the opposite modulation in a successive frame. At least two captured image frames are subtracted from one another to recover the positioning target in the captured visual data and to remove the displayed image payload. The location, size, and orientation of the recovered positioning target identify the aiming point of the remote pointing device relative to the display. Another embodiment uses temporal sequencing of positioning targets (either human-perceptible or human-imperceptible) to position the pointing device.

Methods and systems for molecular fingerprinting

This invention relates in general to a method for molecular fingerprinting. The method can be used for forensic identification (e.g. DNA fingerprinting, especially by VNTR), bacterial typing, and human / animal pathogen diagnosis. More particularly, molecules such as polynucleotides (e.g. DNA) can be assessed or sorted by size in a microfabricated device that analyzes the polynucleotides according to restriction fragment length polymorphism. In a microfabricated device according to the invention, DNA fragments or other molecules can be rapidly and accurately typed using relatively small samples, by measuring for example the signal of an optically-detectable (e.g., fluorescent) reporter associated with the polynucleotide fragments.

System and method for detecting hidden atrial events for use with automatic mode switching within an implantable medical device

Techniques are provided for detecting atrial events that might be hidden due to the operation of a post-ventricular atrial blanking (PVAB) interval or other atrial channel blanking interval. In one example, candidate atrial events are identified within signals occurring during the PVAB interval. Then, a determination is made as to whether the candidate atrial event is a true atrial event based on a comparison of characteristics of the candidate atrial event with characteristics of prior known atrial events within the patient. By comparing the characteristics of the “hidden” event with the characteristics of prior known atrial events within the patient, a quick and accurate determination can be made whether the event should be counted as a P-wave. In this manner, hidden atrial arrhythmias can be detected and mode switch oscillations can be reduced or eliminated.

Apparatus and method for displaying numeric values corresponding to the volume of segments of an irregularly shaped item

An apparatus and method for displaying the weight or cost of segments of an irregularly shaped item involves passing a sensor bar supported above a supporting surface over the item lying on the surface. A compact hand-held embodiment of the sensor bar enables the operator to move the sensor bar in various linear or non-linear motions over the item surface as the sensor bar moves laterally across the item surface while the sensor bar support posts remain in constant contact with the supporting surface. The sensor bar contains one or more sensors which generate signals corresponding to the height of the item as the sensor bar traverses the item. At the same time, a displacement detector arrangement generates signals corresponding to displacement of the sensor bar relative to the support surface. These signals are processed in a signal processor to determine the volume of an uncut segment of the item lying behind the sensor bar at successive positions. Each of these cumulative volume determinations may be continuously converted into numeric weight values based on the density factor for the particular type of item, whereby numeric weight and cost values (based on weight) are continuously displayed as the sensor bar is stroked over the item, thus enabling the operator to accommodate an on-looking consumer's specific requests as per the particular portion desired based on the physical appearance, weight, and cost of an item before the item is cut.

Determination device for tyre abrasion

The invention provides a determination device for tyre abrasion, wherein the degree of the tyre abrasion before and after the running can be easily measured in metric sizes. The device comprises a light source mechanism and a digital photographic mechanism. The light source mechanism irradiates light on the surface of tyres before and after the running by using the cosine grating arranged inside a lens. The digital photographic mechanism determines the luminous intensity on the surface of the tyres and represents the abrasion loss of the tyre surfaces according to the metric data of a single image. Thus, the effect that the abrasion state of tyres can be easily and quickly measured without spatial limitation can be realized by comparing with conventional measured time.Since the abrasion statecan be illustrated by a single image to form metric data, so that the state of tyre abrasion before and after the running can be accurately analyzed.

On-chip interface trap characterization and monitoring

A method and apparatus for testing semiconductor wafers is disclosed in which a test circuit is used that includes a waveform generator. The test circuit can test a single transistor or can test multiple transistors. A testing method is disclosed in which a supply voltage is applied to the waveform generator to produce pulses that are applied to the gate of a transistor to be tested. A bias voltage is applied to the source and drain of the transistor to be tested, and the charge pumping current that is generated at the substrate is then measured. The process can be repeated at different bias voltage levels to obtain additional current measurements, indicating the maximum charge pumping current for the transistor that is being tested. The determined maximum charge pumping current can then be used for determining whether there is excessive 1 / f noise in the device under test.

Devices and methods for the rapid, reliable detection and determiniation of acrylamide concentration in food substances and prevention of acrylamide formation in the same

ActiveUS20060029992A1Quickly and easily ascertainEliminate and greatly reduce formation of acrylamideMicrobiological testing/measurementFood preparationHigh concentrationForms of energy
The present invention includes a device and associated analytical method to use for the sensitive detection and accurate, rapid determination of acrylamide in food substances. The present invention also relates to the use of a kit device and associated analytical method in which a user can quickly and easily ascertain the amount of acrylamide in food substances with ease and in any location, including a non-laboratory environment. Such detection device and method may be comprised of a sample collection area on which a sample of food, after being mixed in a solution, is placed for example on the substrate of a biochip that includes an enzyme that along with a co-enzyme or form of energy or catalyst, facilitates the conversion of either acrylamide to acrylonitrile or the conversion of acrylamide to ammonia. If acrylamide is detected in the sample food substance, the resultant concentration, as determined on the calorimetric scale, provides the consumer of the food substance an opportunity to reject or discard the substance prior to digestion, thus promoting good health and avoiding potential ingestion of relatively high concentrations of carcinogenic potent acrylamides. Another variation of the detection device above may utilize pH balance meter and system similar to the calorimetric system utilized above, but which allows a numeric or digital reading of the concentration of acrylamides present in the sample of food. Another variation of the detection device may utilize infrared (IR) detection using an IR sensor to measure a sample and quantify the concentration of acrylonitrile within the sample by an absorption peak of the carbon-nitrogen (C≡N) triple bond in acrylonitrile in an IR spectra at 2250 cm−1 wavelength.

Method for the quality assessment of a component produced by means of an additive manufacturing method

The invention relates to a method for the quality assessment of a component produced by means of an additive manufacturing method. In the course of the method, it is checked first of all whether the component violates predetermined absolute limits in order to rule out the existence of serious malfunctions in the additive manufacturing process. Subsequently, a component-dependent targeting process is determined. On the basis of this targeting process, the limits for deviations are established and deviating actual values of the component are isolated and assessed by means of various parameters.
