The invention provides a flexible piezoresistive touch sensor array and a preparation method thereof. The sensor array comprises N*N separated piezoresistive layers and a coplanar electrode layer. The piezoresistive layers are arranged on the coplanar electrode layer. Each piezoresistive layer comprises an upper finger pressing layer, a middle sensitive layer and a bottom sensitive layer, wherein the three layers are each provided with a micro pyramid; the coplanar electrode layer comprises a polymer electrode substrate and N*N gold electrode pairs located on the polymer electrode substrate. The piezoresistive layers adopt polymer films with the micro pyramid, and due to the three-layer structure, the sensitivity of the sensor at the low-voltage region can be greatly improved. In addition, in order to overcome the defect that a traditional touch sensor is large in crosstalk due to a sandwiched structure, the coplanar electrode layer is adopted, all electrodes are located on the same plane, each piezoresistive layer is attached to the corresponding electrode pair, the piezoresistive units are completely separated, and the sensitivity and anti-interference capacity of the sensor are effectively improved.

Capacitive pressure sensor and method therefor

A capacitive pressure sensor and method for its fabrication. The sensor is fabricated from first and second wafers to have a mechanical capacitor comprising a fixed electrode and a moving electrode defined by a conductive plate. The sensor further has a diaphragm on a surface of the first wafer that is mechanically coupled but electrically insulated from the conductive plate. A conductive layer on the surface of the first wafer is spaced apart from the conductive plate to define the fixed electrode. The second wafer is bonded to the first wafer and carries interface circuitry for the sensor, including the conductive plate and the fixed electrode which are between the first and second wafers and electrically connected to the interface circuitry. At least an opening is present in the first wafer and its first conductive layer by which the diaphragm is released and exposed to an environment surrounding the sensor.

Method for use with the pressure triggering of medical ventilators

A method for providing a pressure reference level for pressure triggering a ventilator responsive to a spontaneous breathing attempt by a patient. In the method, the patient connection of the breathing circuit is capped or plugged. A gas flow is then provided through the breathing circuit and is altered to an amount that causes the flow resistance properties of the breathing circuit to generate a desired gas pressure in the breathing circuit suitable for use as a reference pressure by the ventilator for pressure responsive triggering. During the operation of the ventilator, gas flow in a corresponding amount serves as a bias flow in the breathing circuit to assist breathing by the patient. The bias flow also generates the reference pressure level in the breathing circuit. A reduction in pressure from the pressure level resulting from inhalation by the patient triggers the operation of the ventilator.

An entirely surface micromachined free hanging strain-gauge pressure sensor is disclosed. The sensing element consists of a 80 μm long H-shaped double ended supported force transducing beam (16). The beam is located beneath and at one end attached to a square polysilicon diaphragm (14) and at the other end to the cavity edge. The sensor according to the invention enables a combination of high pressure sensitivity and miniature chip size as well as good environmental isolation. The pressure sensitivity for the sensor with a H-shaped force transducing beam, 0.4 μm thick was found to be 5 μV / V / mmHg.

A pressure sensor includes a metal stem having a diaphragm, and a semiconductor substrate in which an insulation layer is inserted between first and second semiconductor layers. A plurality of strain gauges are formed on a predetermined area of the first semiconductor layer of the semiconductor substrate, for converting a bending of the diaphragm to an electrical signal. In the pressure sensor, the strain gauges have pattern shapes insulated and separated from each other by trenches extending from a surface of the first semiconductor layer to the insulation layer. Furthermore, the second semiconductor layer has a recess portion, which is recessed from a surface of the second semiconductor layer to the insulation layer and is provided at a position corresponding to the predetermined area. The diaphragm is inserted into the recess portion, and the insulation layer is attached to a surface of the diaphragm in the recess portion.

The radial pulse pressure detected by the sensor can be correlated to an arterial blood pressure. Calibration of said pressure sensors using a neural network allows for determination of absolute blood pressure.
