Environmentally protective Method of treating an aqueous radioactive fluid (AF) in a nuclear reactor cycle or radwaste system to selectively capture or remove radioactive isotopes in a reduced quantitative package to minimize radwaste generated and revitalize neutron absorption capacity of nuclear reactor coolant by separately carrying away boron constituents, when B10 is later added. The method includes: demineralizing the (AF) by rough ion exchange and lowering the pH of salts, boron and non- radioactive substances so that the boron can later pass through an RO; polishing by reverse osmosis; dividing the (AF) into a permeate liquid volume and a reject liquid volume, each having certain characteristics; recycling the reject liquid volume back into demineralizing step for removing generally most of the radioactive isotopes to generate a demineralizer effluent; and conveying the permeate liquid volume to the outside ambient environmental release point for liquid effluents of the (AF); dividing the demineralizer effluent into a further permeate liquid volume and a further reject liquid volume having certain characteristics; and conveying the further permeate liquid volume to the outside ambient environmental release point of the invention.

Dynamic control of selective non-catalytic reduction system for semi-batch-fed stoker-based municipal solid waste combustion

The present invention controls reagent flow levels in a selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) system by more accurately predicting Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) production with a municipal waste combustor. In one embodiment, the reagent levels correspond with measured furnace temperatures. The reagent levels may have a baseline level from prior measured NOx that is then modified according to temperatures measurements. A slow controller may use NOx measurements over an extended period to define a base regent level, and a fast controller may use additional information such as the furnace temperature to modify the base regent level. The fast controller may further receive two additional signals that are added individually or together to maximize NOx control while minimizing ammonia slip from the reagent. The two signals are a feed-forward signal from the combustion controller and a feedback signal from an ammonia analyzer downstream of the combustion zone.

Brake caliper with brake pad timing and retraction controller

A brake caliper is provided with a timing and retraction controller that that adjusts brake timing, eliminates parasitic brake losses and dampens out-of-plane vibration between the brake pad and rotor. The brake caliper includes a housing disposed over a brake rotor; first and second opposing brake pads extendably and retractably mounted on opposite sides of the caliper housing, brake pistons that extend and retract the brake pads into and out of frictional engagement with the rotor, and brake pad timing and retraction controllers disposed on opposite sides of the caliper housing. Each controller includes a Belleville spring or other resilient member with a short compression travel limited to between about 1.50 mm and 0.025 mm. The short stroke Belleville spring of each controller applies a hold-off force against the extension force of the brake pistons that slightly delays brake pad extension and slightly reduces brake pad clamping force against the rotor, thereby advantageously providing a front wheel braking bias when applied to the rear wheels of a vehicle. The restorative force applied by the short stroke Belleville forcefully and uniformly retracts the brake pad from the rotor, eliminating parasitic brake losses, and dampening out-of-plane vibration between the brake pad and rotor.

Mouse collar

In this high tech computer world the lowly foam rubber mouse pad has a heretofore untapped feature which can be employed to solve a common desktop problem for the personal computer user. By making a simple enhancement of the mouse pad, which takes about 30 seconds to install, the user can take control of mouse cord movement on the desktop. The computer mouse cord, always problematic on the desktop, is collared by a simple binder clip attached to the mouse pad itself wherein the cord is squeezed snuggly against the vertical foam rubber edge of the mouse pad to give frictional control of the mouse cord length for the user at the mouse pad thereby eliminating the cord drag problem and optimizing user control of the mouse apparatus on the mouse pad with all this being accomplished in a very unobtrusive manner on the user's desktop.
