Method, system and apparatus for dark-field reflection-mode photoacoustic tomography

The present invention provides a method, system and apparatus for reflection-mode microscopic photoacoustic imaging using dark-field illumination that can be used to characterize a target within a tissue by focusing one or more laser pulses onto a surface of the tissue so as to penetrate the tissue and illuminate the target, receiving acoustic or pressure waves induced in the target by the one or more laser pulses using one or more ultrasonic transducers that are focused on the target and recording the received acoustic or pressure waves so that a characterization of the target can be obtained. The target characterization may include an image, a composition or a structure of the target. The one or more laser pulses are focused with an optical assembly of lenses and / or mirrors that expands and then converges the one or more laser pulses towards the focal point of the ultrasonic transducer.

Vertically integrated 3-axis MEMS accelerometer with electronics

A system and method in accordance with the present invention provides for a low cost, bulk micromachined accelerometer integrated with electronics. The accelerometer can also be integrated with rate sensors that operate in a vacuum environment. The quality factor of the resonances is suppressed by adding dampers. Acceleration sensing in each axis is achieved by separate structures where the motion of the proof mass affects the value of sense capacitors differentially. Two structures are used per axis to enable full bridge measurements to further reduce the mechanical noise, immunity to power supply changes and cross axis coupling. To reduce the sensitivity to packaging and temperature changes, each mechanical structure is anchored to a single anchor pillar bonded to the top cover.

Apparatus and method for eddy-current scanning of a surface to detect cracks and other defects

An apparatus having a plurality of coils (e.g., numerous thin-film coils formed in an array on a flex circuit), each coil acting as an excitation unit that generates an alternating excitation magnetic signal; and as a sensor configured to detect an eddy-current signal's phase and amplitude changes relative to the excitation magnetic signal. In some embodiments, the apparatus electronically scans a surface (e.g., of a metal plate) by successively switching to individual ones of the plurality of excitation / sensing coils (using, e.g., an analog multiplexer) without physical movement in order to detect anomalous signal changes in a manner that reduces signal changes due to probe lift-off relative to the surface. In some embodiments, the coils are placed across a large area of interest, for inspection of a large surface area in a few seconds without moving the apparatus. This can provide high-sensitivity detection and an accurate indication of flaw locations.

Data read device, read method and circuit controlling read device

An HDC asserts the read gate of an RDC when a read head is positioned in a sector located before a sector that a hot system instructs to read data when seen from the rotation direction of a storage medium. The data that the read head has read from the sector is used to adapt a circuit that constitutes the RDC. However, the data is not transferred to the host system. Such a process is repeated until the read head reaches a position where data stored in a sector whose data has been instructed to read can be read. In this way, time needed to adapt a circuit that constitutes a read channel can be shortened.
