A septic tank is an underground chamber made of concrete, fiberglass, or plastic through which domestic wastewater (sewage) flows for basic treatment. Settling and anaerobic processes reduce solids and organics, but the treatment efficiency is only moderate (referred to as "primary treatment"). Septic tank systems are a type of simple onsite sewage facility (OSSF). They can be used in areas that are not connected to a sewerage system, such as rural areas. The treated liquid effluent is commonly disposed in a septic drain field, which provides further treatment. Nonetheless, groundwater pollution may occur and can be a problem.

Automated, self-contained, home sewage treatment system

A small and cost effective sewage treatment system intended for unattended use in individual homes, small industries or businesses in locations where a central sewage treatment plant is not available. The sewage treatment system comprises a conventional septic tank which drains into a smaller aerated holding tank, a pump to transfer effluent from the holding tank into a disinfecting chamber, a regenerative heat exchanger used to raise the temperature of the effluent while being aerated in the holding tank, means for pumping the effluent at a controlled rate through a microwave field, and a conventional drain field used to release the disinfected water into the surrounding soil. Operation of this system is fully regulated by a micro-controller, thereby eliminating the need for human intervention during normal use. This invention also incorporates electronic means for detecting various fault conditions which may impede effective disinfection, means for diagnosing what part of the system is at fault, means for reporting the fault and diagnose to a central municipal location via a telephone or transponder system, an emergency battery backup system, and means for reverting system operation to that of a conventional septic tank and drain field system is case of a total power failure (both A/C and DIC) or water pump failure. Conventional household alternating current or a battery recharged via a wind generator or solar cells may power the sewage treatment system.

Method of treating organic wastewater and sludge and treatment apparatus therefor

The present invention has an object to provide a process and an apparatus for efficiently recovering magnesium ammonium phosphate (hereinafter referred to as “MAP”) crystals of high purity and good quality in the technique of removing phosphorus and the like as MAP crystals from wastewater containing high concentration organic substance, phosphorus and nitrogen such as a digested supernatant liquor of human waste sewage and septic tank sludge, a digested liquor of sludge, chemical plant wastewater, and simultaneously recovering the MAP crystals. As the means to achieve such an object, the present invention provides a sludge treatment process comprising treating a sludge mixed liquor formed in the biological treatment system for organic wastewater in an anaerobic digestion tank to effect the digestion of sludge, simultaneously adding a magnesium source to the anaerobic digestion tank to allow crystals particles of MAP to form and grow in the anaerobic digestion tank, withdrawing a sludge mixed liquor containing the crystals of MAP from the anaerobic digestion tank, separating and recovering solids containing MAP crystal particles from the withdrawn sludge mixed liquor, and returning part of the sludge mixed liquor after separation and recovery of MAP crystal particles to the anaerobic digestion tank.

Hospital waste water treatment system

The invention discloses a hospital waste water treatment system, which belongs to the field of environment protection. In the invention, through multi-stage, multilayer and comprehensive treatment, almost all harmful pathogenic microbes in waste water are killed basically, and water in the recycled water pool is protected from secondary pollution and reaches emission standards higher than those specified by China and can be reused; in a systemic treatment process, the organic matters in sludge are degraded completely, and special treatment of the sludge is not required; and the system operates in a closed environment, and harmful gases generated in a treatment process are exhausted after being disinfected by ozone and ultraviolet disinfecting device in an exhaust pipe without polluting the air.

Buoyancy flushing apparatus and method thereof

A buoyancy flushing apparatus is disclosed which comprises a reservoir for accumulating liquid, having an inlet for receiving liquid and an outlet chamber recessed in a bottom wall of the reservoir. The outlet chamber includes an outlet for draining liquid out of the reservoir. The apparatus further comprises an outlet valve movable between a down position where liquid accumulates in the reservoir and a raised position where liquid accumulated in the reservoir is flushed out via the outlet. The outlet valve comprises a ballast unit sized and shaped to fit loosely in the outlet chamber when said valve is in the down position; and a float unit topping the ballast unit to move the valve in the raised position by buoyancy when a sufficient amount of liquid is accumulated in the reservoir, thereby providing a passageway for liquid between the bottom wall of the reservoir and the valve leading to the outlet in the outlet chamber to flush liquid out of the reservoir. Guiding means are provided for guiding the outlet valve between the down position and the raised position. The apparatus can be used for applications such as water treatment and irrigation. It could advantageously be used for directing and spreading waste water previously treated in a septic tank to different sanitary treating fields.
