Heart valve holder and method for resisting suture looping

An improved holder and method for implanting a tissue-type prosthetic mitral heart valve that prevents suture looping and may also constrict the commissure posts of the valve. An upstanding or shaft member axially positioned on the holder causes the lengths of attachment sutures to extend axially beyond the commissure post tips to create a tent and prevent looping of any of an array of pre-implanted sutures around the tips during deployment of the valve. The shaft member may be axially movable such that it can be initially retracted and then actuated just prior to valve deployment. The shaft member may have notches on its distal tip for capturing the attachment sutures, which are crossed over along the valve axis to ensure engagement by the notches. The attachment sutures may be strands or filaments, or may be wider bands of flexible biocompatible material. If bands are used, they desirably cover the commissure post tips to further help prevent suture looping thereover. The flexible lengths of material extend directly between commissures of the valve, or may extending radially inward from each commissure to a central upstanding member.

Heart valve holder that resist suture looping

An improved holder, system and method for implanting a tissue-type prosthetic mitral heart valve that prevents suture looping and may also constrict the commissure posts of the valve. The holder may include two relatively movable plates, one of which attaches to the valve sewing on the inflow end of the valve ring and the other which attaches via sutures or similar expedient to the valve commissures on the outflow end. Separation of the plates places the sutures in tension and constricts the commissures. The sutures may be strands or filaments, or may be wider bands of flexible biocompatible material. If bands are used, they desirably cover the commissure post tips to further help prevent suture looping thereover. The flexible lengths of material extend directly between commissures of the valve, or may extending radially inward from each commissure to a central upstanding member. Desirably, a slide is created by the flexible lengths of material adjacent each commissure post, for example by crossing over suture filaments at or radially inward from the commissure posts. If an upstanding member is used, the lengths of suture extend axially beyond the commissure post tips to create a tent that wards off sutures that otherwise might loop around the tips during advancement of the valve along an array of pre-implanted sutures.

Ethernet automatic protection switching

A method and apparatus is provided for automatic protection switching in a ring network by creating a protection domain having a control vlan and protected data vlans and designating a master node and transit nodes connected by a primary port and a secondary port. The master node blocks the secondary port for data vlan traffic until it detects a fault either by notice from a transit node or by polling. When a fault is detected, the master node unblocks the secondary port for data vlan traffic. When the fault is restored, the transit node temporarily blocks the restored port to data vlan traffic thereby preventing a loop. Each time the secondary port is blocked and unblocked, the forwarding databases on all the nodes are flushed.

Data frame routing method and network bridge

A method operates at the data link level. Each bridge associates, during a guard time, the port through which a frame is first received with a source MAC address until a unicast reply frame confirms the matching two-way path between the source and destination addresses. Any frame from the same source received through another different port is discarded. Each bridge forwards the received broadcast frames through the rest of the ports, except those involving prohibited (down-up) turns, and deviates (or optionally returns) the unicast frames with an unknown or aged destination address through the spanning tree. The protocol can operate with encapsulation in the border bridges or without encapsulation, using in this case the replacement of universal MAC addresses in the border bridges with local MAC addresses. The establishment and control of paths can optionally be performed proactively by the border bridges, especially the bridges connected to servers.

Systems and methods for dynamic routing in a cluster

ActiveUS20130336317A1Easily and efficiently distribute packets among the connectionsAvoid loopsData switching by path configurationHigh level techniquesLink aggregationAdaptive routing
The present application is directed towards distributing multicast routing packets in a cluster environment utilizing link aggregation. In a cluster environment, a plurality of devices may be connected to an upstream router or switch as a single “virtual” device having a plurality of connections as part of a link aggregation group, allowing the router to easily and efficiently distribute packets among the connections. Multicast routing packets may be sent via only a single connection of the link aggregation group, and accordingly, a recipient device may distribute the multicast routing packet to other devices. To distinguish between a newly received routing packet from the router and an internally distributed routing packet from a first device, the first device may insert a predetermined identifier into a MAC address of the routing packet.

Failure notification in a network having serially connected nodes

Multicast capabilities of a link state protocol controlled network are used to accelerate the flooding advertisement of topology change notifications within portions of the network. This flooding mechanism may be particularly efficient in a network with a large number of two-connected nodes such as a ring network architecture. A control plane specific multicast group address is used when flooding topology change notifications, and a process such as reverse path forwarding check is used as an additional control on forwarding of the notification to prevent looping of control plane packets. Two-connected nodes insert a forwarding entry into their FIB to enable frames containing the control message to be forwarded via the data plane on to the downstream node so that propagation of the control message along a chain of two-connected nodes may occur at data plane speeds.

Vehicle air conditioner

In an air conditioner for a vehicle having a temperature-controlled apparatus such as a fuel cell system, a heater core heats air by using unnecessary thermal energy from the fuel cell system. Further, a switching valve is controlled to switch between a first circuit and a second circuit. Cooling water is circulated between the heater core and the fuel cell system in the first circuit, and passes through the heater core while by passing the fuel cell system in the second circuit. When a cooling water temperature flowing from the heater core is lower than a cooling water temperature from the fuel cell system, the switching valve is controlled by a control unit to select the first circuit. Accordingly, the heater core can effectively use the unnecessary thermal energy from the fuel cell system.

Method for manufacturing squirrel cage rotor

InactiveUS20050134137A1Eliminate its organic contentReduced rotor lossesSynchronous motorsFoundry mouldsElectrical conductorAdhesive
Ceramic adhesive is applied inside the slots of an electric machine squirrel cage rotor prior to casting or insertion of rotor conductors. This heat-resistant insulation provides superior electrical insulation that is also mechanically rugged, thus enabling casting of squirrel cage rotors by die or cost-effective consumable pattern casting. The consumable pattern cast copper rotors are electrically well insulated, thus minimizing rotor losses. The ceramic insulation in cast rotors enables longer conductors to be cast by thermally insulating the molten metal from the cooler laminations. The ceramic insulation in fabricated rotors withstands the high temperatures of end ring attachment. This method is applicable to both conventional induction machine rotors and brushless doubly-fed induction machine rotors and provides the degree of electrical isolation of the bars from the laminations needed to avoid excessive parasitic torques in doubly-fed machines, while ensuring adequate thermal conductivity to dissipate conductive bar heat to the laminations.

System and method for building large-scale layer 2 computer networks

A grand computer network is formed from layer 2 (L2) networking technology in which groups of Provider L2 bridges are organized into formations, and different formations are interconnected via network-network interface (NNI) links. Customer sites are coupled to the formations. Customers identify their traffic, e.g., frames, by labeling or tagging it with a Customer Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) Identifier (C-VLAN ID) or Customer Service Instance (CSI). Within the formations, the C-VLAN ID is mapped to a Service VLAN ID (S-VLAN ID) or Provider Service Instance (PSI), and the S-VLAN ID is appended to the customer traffic. The PSIs are hierarchical, such that each PSI belongs to at most one other “outer” or higher-level PSI, but may itself own any number of “inner” or lower-level PSIs. As a given frame traverses through the different formations of the Grand Network via the NNI links, the frame acquires an encapsulation, sheds an encapsulation or exchanges its current encapsulation for a different one. Bridges within the formations run a Hierarchical Spanning Tree Program (HSTP) to block intra-formation loops, and a GARP L2-NNI Registration Protocol (GLRP) to block inter-formation loops.

Method and network nodes for reporting at least one dropped-out connection path withing a communication network

InactiveUS20070110079A1Fast transferRouting loops will be avoidedData switching by path configurationRouting tableComputer network
A network node in the communication network is a target network node, connected by a first communication path with at least one first and one second network node, connected to each other by means of a further communication path. A routing table is held in each network node. The direct communication path from the first network node to the target network node is entered in the routing table of the first network node as the primary routing path and the path leading from the first network node to the second network node and then to the target network node is entered as the reserve routing path. An analogous entry is made in the routing table of the second network node. The relevant reserve routing path is only used on disruption of the primary routing path. A disruption in the primary communication path, provided between the first network node and the target network node is reported by the first network node, by means of a message sent to the second network node. This controls the second network node such that, on a drop-out of the primary connection path thereof to the target network node, a transmission of data packets to the target network node by means of the reverse routing path, leading from the second network node to the target network node via the first network node, is prevented.
