This invention deals with an advanced Real-time Grid Monitoring System (RTGMS) suitable for both single-phase and three-phase electric power systems. This invention provides an essential signal processing block to be used as a part of complex systems either focused on supervising and diagnosing power systems or devoted to control power processors interacting with the grid. This invention is based on a new algorithm very suitable for real-time characterization of the grid variables under distorted and unbalanced grid conditions. The main characteristic of this invention is the usage of a frequency-locked loop, based on detecting the grid frequency, for synchronizing to the grid variables. It results in a very robust system response in relation to existing technique based on the phase-angle detection since grid frequency is much more stable variable than the grid voltage/current phase-angle, mainly during grid faults. Moreover, the algorithm supporting this invention is very efficient and can be implemented in regular industrial microprocessors. These features make the RTGMS object of this invention ideal to be applied in the control of distributed generation systems (DGS), flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS), power quality conditioners (PQC) and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). In all these systems, the fast and precise real time detection of the voltage and/or current sequence components under grid fault conditions is a crucial matter.

A notch filter with a high Q factor, which is integrated with a first and a second cascoded LNA, is totally contained on an integrated chip. Semi-permeable membranes are described that allow for the efficient processing of many liquid based feed solutions, particularly those that contain acids. The membranes of this invention are able to process such feeds with high permeate rates while maintaining excellent retention of dissolved metals, cations, and organic compounds, even in the presence of hot concentrated acids. The semi-permeable membranes of this invention are able to conduct such separations for a useful period of time due to their chemical stability towards acids and their ability to permeate acids.

A diversity receiver (60) has two diverse channels fed by the antennas, an adaptive equalizer (20,30) for each channel and a coefficient adapter (40) for adapting two sets of coefficients in a time shared manner for the equalizers. A lumped-element low-pass filter is formed in a multi-layered substrate. A negative mutual inductance between two inductors is adjusted to a designed value and utilized to improve the rejection in the stopband of the low-pass filter. The two inductors are spiral in shape and the orientations of the first inductor and the second inductor are of opposite sense such that a mutual inductance between the first inductor and the second inductor is negative and equals a designed value. The present invention relates to a load and moment sensor for a prosthetic device detecting load in a single direction and moment in a single plane. The load and moment sensor includes a sensing element, and a plurality of strain gauges placed in specific locations of the sensing element. The plurality of strain gauges is part of a plurality of resistor circuits such as Wheatstone bridges. While the strain gauges can be located on a single sensing element, some resistive elements of the Wheatstone bridges can be located elsewhere on the prosthetic device. The combination of the location of the strain gauges and the use of the Wheatstone bridges allows for good side load rejection which is load and moment not in the single direction or the single plane.

An optoelectronic RF signal receiver utilizes a first RF to photonic modulator for receiving an optical carrier signal and an electrical signal from a local oscillator and producing an optical carrier signal with first optical sidebands offset from the carrier signal by the local oscillator frequency. A second RF to photonic modulator receives an electrical RF signal and the signals from the first modulator and produces second sidebands to each of the first optical sidebands from the first modulator with each of the second sidebands being offset from the first sidebands by the RF signal frequency. A detector then receives signals produced by the second modulator and produces an electrical IF signal for further processing. The receiver does not utilize a frequency translation device in the RF signal path and thereby eliminates RF loss, noise, and limited dynamic range characteristic of prior art electro-optical receivers. The two modulators can be biased for optimum linearity and for optimum rejection of in-band spurious signal products.

In detectors for imaging and other applications, delay line anodes are arrayed so as to allow detection of the location and/or timing of particle hits. The anodes are arrayed to provide an upper anode and one or more lower anodes, with particles incident on the upper anode passing in turn to the lower anodes.
