A system and method for managing access to a satellite-based transponder by a plurality of aircraft each having a mobile radio frequency (RF) system. The system employs a ground-based, central control system for managing access to the satellite-based transponder so that the aggregate power spectral density (PSD) of the RF signals of all the mobile systems does not exceed, at any time, limits established by regulatory agencies to prevent interference between satellite systems. This is accomplished by a dual control loop arrangement for monitoring the signal-to-noise ratio (Eb / No) of the RF signal transmitted by the satellite-based transponder. A ground-based control loop is used whereby a ground-based central controller monitors the Eb / No and transmits commands to the aircraft (via the satellite transponder) to maintain the Eb / No of the transmitted signal within a predetermined range. A fast scan angle compensation is used by the mobile system of the aircraft to implement another control loop to further adjust the transmit power. This control loop maintains the Eb / No of the signal transmitted to the satellite-based transponder at the commanded level inbetween updates from the ground-based central controller.

A method and system for interactive modeling of high-level network performance with low-level link design provides a tool for optimizing networked computing systems and their link components simultaneously. The method models a fixed portion of a network and specifies operational performance levels and power constraints. A solution is chosen for a non-fixed network portion and the network is simulated to determine link requirements and synthesizes links in conformity with the link requirements. The links are analyzed to determine performance (e.g., bandwidth) and requirements (e.g., power) and network performance is recalculated. An iterative loop from the selection of the non-fixed topology through synthesis and recalculation of link performance can be implemented to optimize the link and network design. The links may be links that use an adaptive management policy that trades off power and bandwidth in multiple operating modes and the method may be used to optimize the operating modes and / or management rules.

The invention discloses a distributed node self-adaptive routing algorithm for an LEO satellite network. The technical characteristics are that the algorithm includes the following steps: a latticed LEO satellite communication system similar to an Iridium constellation is constructed; according to an interstar link design in a longitude and latitude direction, each satellite node is independently responsible for forwarding datagrams in a queue through a netted topological structure of a satellite constellation; and through increases and transmission of additional network state information in the datagrams, the satellite nodes sense and predict network states in different routing directions, and then the datagrams are guided to select forwarding links. The distributed node self-adaptive routing algorithm is reasonable in design. The determined self-adaptive routing mechanism balances traffic to prevent congestion through a load balancing means, and is applied to a low earth orbit Iridium-like constellation satellite network system. The network performance index of the algorithm is better than network performance indexes of other conventional algorithms. Particularly in a condition that a few routing hops is increased, the network load balancing degree is substantially increased, and the performance of the algorithm is more excellent than the conventional algorithms.

A system and method for managing access to a satellite-based transponder by a plurality of aircraft each having a mobile radio frequency (RF) system.
