The invention discloses a method for regulating and controlling the water quality of fully enclosed circulation sea-water industrial mariculture, comprising the following steps: (1) purifying water source of seawater through a sedimentation basin, regulating salinity and temperature, then supplying water to a culture pond; (2) letting the culture waste water discharged from the culture pond flow into a water collecting tank through a sewage tank, and putting the culture waste water to a filter unit for mechanical filtering; (3) dynamically lifting water to high position for sand filtration; (4) carrying out biological treatment in a biological filter which is filled with brushes as biological carriers; and (5) carrying out sterilization with vitalight lamp radiation, and then returning to the culture pond for recycling. The results of trial culture with the invention show that: the removal rates of three nitrogens of the processed water are all exceed 70 %, the removal rate of NO3<->-N exceeds 80 %; the bacterial index is reduced by 85.05 %, DO is increased to a certain extent, and the pH value is increased slightly; the indexes of water quality after treatment achieve the water standards of mariculture, simultaneously, culture output is increased, and the hydroenergy and electric energy are saved.

The invention discloses a method for purifying mariculture wastewater by utilizing a compound microbial inoculant. The method comprises the following steps: (1) screening the compound microbial inoculant which consists of photosynthetic bacteria, nitrobacteria, denitrifying bacteria, candida utilis, lactobacillus acidophilus and bacillus; (2) activating the compound microbial inoculant by utilizing a culture medium: directly adding the strain into the culture medium based on 1% of inoculation amount (w / v), and activating the strain by a shaker at the temperature of 37 DEG C with the speed of 150rpm (revolution per minute) for 24 hours so that the total content of microbes is 7*10<8>-9*10<8>CFUs (colony forming units) / mL; and (3) adding the activated compound inoculant into the treated aquaculture wastewater, wherein the compound inoculant accounts for 0.06%-0.12% of the total weight of the aquaculture wastewater. The method has the advantages of no toxicity and harm on aquaculture animals, simple process, fast organic matter degradation speed, obvious effect, no drug residues and no secondary pollution. Therefore, the method has economic feasibility and is applicable to popularization and application to coastal aquaculture industry.

Mitigation of tropical cyclone intensity and damage

High sea surface temperatures (SST) are a major factor in the formation and maintenance of tropical cyclones. Global warming has contributed to a rise in SSTs causing an increase in tropical cyclone formation. This increase in SSTs in the Atlantic basin is attributed to failing of the ThemoHaline Currents (THC) that provides warm ocean waters to Europe. Should the THC fail, it is estimated that Europe would be plunged into a 200-400 year ice age. The invention described herein uses OTEC or similar technology to pump cold ocean water to the surface, reducing SSTs limiting the formation and growth of tropical cyclones. Additional benefits would include strengthening of the THC as well as providing a stop-gap solution for global warming while more responsible manufacturing and industrial methods are designed and implemented. With limited additions to the OTEC platform other benefits can be derived including but not limited to mariculture, algaeculture, biodiesel and ethanol production, and carbon sequestration.
