A manipulator for medical use having a reduced size and improved controllability. The manipulator includes a surgical tool portion, a grip portion provided on the surgical tool portion, and a driver portion for driving the grip portion provided on the surgical tool portion. A connection portion of the surgical tool is provided between the surgical tool portion and the driver portion. The surgical tool can be separated from, and connected to, the driver portion. The surgical tool portion has two rotating members disposed in opposing relation to each other. A driving arrangement is provided for driving one of the rotating members and causing it to revolute the other rotating member, but not rotate by itself. An arrangement is also provided for keeping a distance between rotation centers of the two rotating members constant.

An aiming sight includes a controller, a power supply, an LED array, and a collimator. The power supply powers the LEDs to turn-on and turn-off, and powers the collimator to rotate. The collimator rotates to different rotational positions while the controller, the power supply, and the LED array remain fixed in place. The LEDs are positioned such that one LED and the collimator are at a constant angle and separated by a constant focal distance for each collimator position. The controller controls the collimator to rotate to a collimator position to generate an aiming dot at an angular position corresponding to the collimator position. There is provided a thermally assisted magnetic recording device capable of preventing collision between a thermally assisted magnetic recording head and a disk due to thermal deformation of a near-field transducer. The thermally assisted magnetic recording device includes a temperature sensor for measuring the temperature in the vicinity of the near-field transducer, a table that stores the relationship between temperature and deformation in the vicinity of the near-field transducer, and a control unit. The control unit calculates the deformation in the vicinity of the near-field transducer, from the temperature measured by the temperature sensor and the relationship between temperature and deformation stored in the table. Then, the control unit drives the flying height control actuator according to the calculated deformation to control the distance between the thermally assisted magnetic recording and the disk in order to avoid contact between them.

An object is to provide a method for manufacturing a light-emitting device including a flexible substrate, in which separation is performed without separation at the interface between the light-emitting layer and the electrode. A spacer formed of a light absorbing material which absorbs laser light is formed over a partition of one of substrates, a coloring layer is formed over the other substrate, and the substrates are bonded to each other with the use of a bonding layer. The light-emitting layer and the electrode which are formed over the spacer are irradiated with laser light through the coloring layer, so that at least the bonding layer among the light-emitting layer, the electrode, the coloring layer, and the bonding layer is melted to form a fixed portion where the bonding layer and the spacer are bonded by welding.
