Electrical lapping guide for flare point control and trailing shield throat height in a perpendicular magnetic write head

A method for constructing a magnetic write head using an electrical lapping guide to carefully control critical dimensions dining a lapping operation used to define an air bearing surface. The lapping guide is photolithographically patterned in a common photolithographic step with another write head structure so that special relation between the lapping guide and critical dimensions of the write head structure can be carefully maintained. For example, the electrical lapping guide can be patterned in a common photolithographic step as the write pole so that the location of the flare point can he carefully controlled with respect to the location of the lapping guide. A stitched flare structure can also be built together with the electrical lapping guide, then a self-aligned shield can be further built over this stitched flare structure so that both flare point and shield throat can be controlled tightly together by this electrical lapping guide during lapping process. Similarly, the lapping guide can be formed in a common photolithographic step with a trailing shield, so that a critical dimension such as throat height of the trailing shield can be carefully controlled with respect to the electrical lapping guide.

Compact vibrator and seismic monitoring or prospecting method using such a vibrator

Compact vibrator for emitting elastic waves in a material medium such as the subsoil. The vibrator comprises a baseplate (3) intended to be coupled in operation with a surface of this medium, an inertia mass (5) and at least a pair of electromechanical transducers (1, 2) comprising each one or more pillars (A, B) made for example of a piezoelectric or magnetostrictive material. Pillars (A) of first transducer (1) are interposed between baseplate (3) and a relay plate (4). Pillars (B) of the second transducer are interposed between relay plate (4) and inertia mass (5), on the same side of relay plate (4) as pillars (A) preferably, so that inertia mass (5) is positioned in the vicinity of baseplate (3), which contributes to the compactness and to the stability of the vibrator that can therefore be used on slightly sloping surfaces. An excitation generator (6) comprising phase shifting means (7) respectively applies to transducers (A, B) phase-shifted signals that are amplitude-modulable, so that their vibrations combine. The vibrator can be applied: notably for equipping an underground zone under development with periodic seismic monitoring means or for carrying out seismic prospecting operations.

Airbag generator, deflector member, coolant/filter means support member, coolant, and housing

The invention provided a gas generator for an air bag having any of the following members. A deflecting member is provided to suppress discharge of a combustion product generated by a combustion of gas generating means, and is formed as a tube portion to be capable of shielding a gas discharge port formed at least on a circumferential wall of a housing from the inside of the housing. A coolant/filter means supporting member can position a coolant/filter means, prevent a short pass of an operating gas, and functions as a buffer member between the coolant/filter and the housing, and/or prevent a heat from being transferred to a diffuser shell, and comprises an annular portion arranged to face an end surface of the housing and a wall portion contacting with an inner periphery of the coolant/filter means. Further, in order to make it possible to securely support and fix the coolant means and prevent the short pass of the operating gas, an outer peripheral edge of an end portion thereof is adhered and/or supported to a bent portion or a step portion formed in an inner surface of an upper end surface and/or an inner surface of a lower end portion in the housing. The coolant/filter means is formed in a cylindrical shape obtained by laminating a wire mesh. The housing for the gas generator securely fixes an igniter included in an ignition means, is preferably used at a time of manufacturing a gas generator having a restricted overall height, and has an opening portion for inserting and fixing the igniter or an igniter supporting member. The opening portion is provided with a connecting portion for fixing the inserted igniter or igniter supporting member, and the connecting portion is provided in inner side of the housing rather than the end surface having the opening portion.
