Adhesive backed displays

A process for creating an electronically addressable display includes multiple printing operations, similar to a multi-color process in conventional screen printing. In some of the process steps, electrically non-active inks are printed onto areas of the receiving substrate, and in other steps, electrically active inks are printed onto different areas of the substrate. The printed display can be used in a variety of applications. This display can be used as an indicator by changing state of the display after a certain time has elapsed, or when a certain pressure, thermal, radiative, moisture, acoustic, inclination, pH, or other threshold is passed. In one embodiment, the display is incorporated into a battery indicator. A sticker display is described. The sticker is adhesive backed and may then be applied to a surface to create a functional information display unit. This invention also features a display that is both powered and controlled using radio frequencies. It describes a complete system for controlling, addressing, and powering a display. The system includes an antenna or antennae, passive charging circuitry, and active control system, a display, and an energy storage unit. There is also a separate transmitter that provides the remote power for the display. The system is meant to be used anywhere it is useful to provide intermittent updates of information such as in a store, on a highway, or in an airport. A tile-based display allowing a modular system for large area display is created using a printable display material.

Method and system for providing auxiliary content located on local storage during download/access of primary content over a network

A system and computer-based method for providing auxiliary content located on local storage to a client connected to a primary content provider over a network, particularly during transfer of primary content via a server dedicated to download operations. Control over the auxiliary content, primary content and/or the download management server is exercised by a distributor. The system includes the download management server, a customer database and a primary content database on the server side, and a client console including a local storage device containing the auxiliary content on the client side. The auxiliary content provided can be varied based on one or more user preferences, one or more distributor preferences, or a combination of both user and distributor preference information. With respect to user preferences, either previously acquired information is used or the user is prompted to chose from a selection of specific content items and categories of content; default content is provided if no user preferences are available/selected. With respect to distributor preferences, the download management server sends the user auxiliary content assignment data before sending the requested primary content; according to the data, the client computer executes the appropriate auxiliary content stored in the local storage. The auxiliary content is stored in the local storage prior to download of the primary content from the download management server, though the user can acquire the local storage and/or auxiliary content by a variety of means (e.g., the auxiliary content can be provided on a CD-ROM, sent to a client hard drive over the network, etc.).

Microporous breathable building and construction materials comprising coated woven and/or nonwoven fabrics, and method

Breathable materials comprise a fabric layer and a polymer film layer thereon, the polymer film layer comprising a polymer composition and a filler, wherein the breathable material has undergone a physical manipulation to render the polymer film layer microporous such that the WVTR of the breathable material is greater than about 50 g/m2·24 hr, and wherein the breathable material has a first length dimension and a first width dimension before said physical manipulation and a second length dimension and a second width dimension after said physical manipulation, wherein the second length dimension is no more than about 2% greater than the first length dimension and the second width dimension is no more than about 2% greater than the first width dimension. Methods of making a breathable material comprise forming a polymer film layer comprising a polymer composition and a filler; bonding the polymer film layer to a fabric layer to form a laminate; and applying a physical manipulation to the laminate to render the polymer film layer microporous such that the WVTR of the resulting breathable material is greater than about 50 g/m2·24 hr; wherein the breathable material has a first length dimension and a first width dimension before said physical manipulation and a second length dimension and a second width dimension after said physical manipulation, wherein the second length dimension is no more than about 2% greater than the first length dimension and the second width dimension is no more than about 2% greater than the first width dimension.
