Infrared ear thermometer

An infrared ear thermometer includes a detector head housing, a heat sink, a recess formed in the heat sink, a thermopile sensor mounted within the recess, a thermistor, and temperature determination circuitry. The recess defines an aperture that limits the field of view of the thermopile sensor. The thermal capacities and conductivities of the heat sink and the thermopile sensor are selected so that the output signal of the thermopile sensor stabilizes during a temperature measurement. A method of determining temperature using the ear thermometer takes successive measurements, stores the measurements in a moving time window, averages the measurements in the moving window, determines whether the average has stabilized, and outputs an average temperature. A method of calculating a subject's temperature determines the temperature of a cold junction of the thermopile, looks up a bias and slope of the thermopile based upon the temperature of the cold junction, measures the output of the thermopile, and calculates the subject's temperature based upon a linear relationship between the output and the subject's temperature. The linear relationship is defined by the bias and the slope.

Radiation detector head

A radiation detection camera head having a focal-plane array of pixelated detectors having constant pitch between pixels over the whole of the camera head, while using detector modules having normal production tolerances, and which can nevertheless be readily removed and replaced in the detector array by means of predetermined gaps between adjacent detector modules. The pixels on the side walls of the detector modules have reduced size to maintain constant pitch over the array in spite of production variation between modules. The reduction in sensitivity due to this reduced size is compensated for by the addition of insulated conductive bands on the side walls. The head collimator is such that the septa fall between pixels and between modules, such that head sensitivity is maintained at its optimum value.

Detector head position correction for hybrid SPECT/CT imaging apparatus

A system and method provide for more accurate SPECT / CT image registration. CT data is utilized to establish a global spatial coordinate system of a common test phantom. The common test phantom is then used to obtain a set of point source nuclear images. Three-dimensional CT point source data is mapped to a two-dimensional image plane of corresponding point source data, to obtain a pair of intersecting projection cones that are used to obtain a set of detector head position correction parameters to correct detector head positioning in the CT coordinate system when obtaining SPECT projection images of the same object.

Method for positron emission mammography image reconstruction

An image reconstruction method comprising accepting coincidence datat from either a data file or in real time from a pair of detector heads, culling event data that is outside a desired energy range, optionally saving the desired data for each detector position or for each pair of detector pixels on the two detector heads, and then reconstructing the image either by backprojection image reconstruction or by iterative image reconstruction. In the backprojection image reconstruction mode, rays are traced between centers of lines of response (LOR's), counts are then either allocated by nearest pixel interpolation or allocated by an overlap method and then corrected for geometric effects and attenuation and the data file updated. If the iterative image reconstruction option is selected, one implementation is to compute a grid Siddon retracing, and to perform maximum likelihood expectation maiximization (MLEM) computed by either: a) tracing parallel rays between subpixels on opposite detector heads; or b) tracing rays between randomized endpoint locations on opposite detector heads.

System and Method for Quantitative Molecular Breast Imaging

A system and method for performing quantitative lesion analysis in molecular breast imaging (MBI) using the opposing images of a slightly compressed breast that are obtained from the dual-head gamma camera. The method uses the shape of the pixel intensity profiles through each tumor to determine tumor diameter. Also, the method uses a thickness of the compressed breast and the attenuation of gamma rays in soft tissue to determine the depth of the tumor from the collimator face of the detector head. Further still, the method uses the measured tumor diameter and measurements of counts in the tumor and background breast region to determine relative radiotracer uptake or tumor-to-background ratio (T / B ratio).

Tracking region-of-interest in nuclear medical imaging and automatic detector head position adjustment based thereon

A method and system for automatically identifying and tracking a ROI over all planar acquisition view angles of a nuclear imaging system, such as a gamma camera used for SPECT or planar imaging. Temporal intensity variation in emission projection imaging is measured to identify a region of interest (ROI) such as the myocardium. The method automatically tracks the location of the ROI over different planar view angles and adapts detector head orbit and positioning to bring the ROI within a predefined preferred area or so-called “sweet spot” within the FOV of a collimator attached to the front of a scintillation detector surface. After initial positioning of the detector head by the user, the system automatically tracks the ROI location as the detector head(s) rotate about the patient and re-position the detector head(s) appropriately to maintain the ROI within the optimal collimation area of the detector FOV.
