Adaptive power control in wideband CDMA cellular systems (WCDMA) and methods of operation

A WCDMA system includes a Base Station (BS) transmitter, or forward transmitter and a pilot channel that transmits control signals between the BS and a Mobile Station (MS) to reconfigure their transmitter / receiver. Reconfiguration is performed according to the prediction of the channel attenuation and the threshold set at the BS or MS based on its channel power probability density function separated into three distinct equal probable regions. In one embodiment, Seamless Rate Change (SRC) / Transmitter Power Control (TPC) logic uses the predicted channel attenuation to signal both the transmitter and the receiver in a channel to reconfigure their transmit power level according to the power density function (pdf) of the channel power and threshold level. A transmission rate is reduced when the power level is below the threshold and increased when the channel power is above threshold. The pilot channel is used to signal the mobile station and the base station.

Rate agile rate-adaptive digital subscriber line

ActiveUS7317754B1Line rate can be increasedHigh achievable data rateEnergy efficient ICTSignal allocationModem deviceRate change
Methods and apparatus for maintaining the maximum achievable data rate on a DSL line, up to and including a rate to which a user subscribes is described. Performance monitoring is conducted on the DSL line on an ongoing basis to determine noise margins in each direction. Each noise margin is compared against pre-determined decreasing / increasing thresholds to determine whether the line characteristics dictate a data rate change without loss of synchronization. The invention supports dynamic provisioning changes including application driven service level change requests, e.g., new bandwidth-on demand services. In some embodiments, a combination of existing and new embedded operations channel (EOC) messages are used to implement the modem data rate changes. New EOC messages may be implemented using some of the reserved and / or vendor proprietary Opcodes currently permitted. Modem assigned data rate changes are implemented without a disruption of service, e.g., without the need for re-initialization and / or re-synchronization.

System and method for controlling vehicular traffic flow

A system and method for controlling vehicular traffic flow is disclosed, which creates a communication system between vehicles that allows the vehicles to share their respective velocities and acceleration or deceleration rates. Thus, each vehicle within the system can respond immediately to any acceleration or deceleration rate changes of the surrounding vehicles (e.g., the vehicle directly in front, directly in back, and in the adjacent lane). Essentially, the system functions similar to a wireless vehicular train, with a queue of cars linked together by a stiff, wireless communications “chain”. Notably, the term “vehicle” is not limited only to land-based vehicles (e.g., motor vehicles), and the system can include airborne vehicles (e.g., multiple aircraft flying in close formation, military aircraft flying in drone formation, etc.). For example, a system for controlling vehicular traffic flow is disclosed, which includes in each vehicle of a plurality of vehicles, a wireless or infrared (IR) modem for inter-vehicular communications, a range finder for determining the distance and closing rate between vehicles, a processing unit for retrieving vehicular operational data (e.g., velocity, angular velocity, acceleration rate, deceleration rate, braking pressure, weight, pointing vector, etc.) and executing flow control system software instructions, and a vehicular flow control communications protocol that enables the communication of various flow control parameters between vehicles via the wireless or IR modem. Thus, each vehicle in the system “knows” what the surrounding vehicles are doing and can respond immediately to changes in the traffic flow. As such, the system minimizes the distribution of vehicles' velocities in the queue, and increases traffic throughput and safety as a result.

Pressure feedback signal to optimise combustion air control

A novel method of combustion air control for multiple burner furnaces, whereas a pressure transducer is located in the air piping downstream of each zone air flow control device. The pressure transducer sends a feedback signal to a pressure control loop that is in a logical cascade from the furnace temperature control loop. The pressure control loop repositions the air flow control device to compensate for changes in both downstream and upstream conditions. Output from the temperature control loop is interpreted by the pressure control loop as a changing remote set-point value. In one embodiment, the system is ideally suited to compensate for the pressure drop changes that occur across a zone air flow control valve, when flow rate changes occur as burners are started or stopped, thus providing a substantially higher turndown ratio and better control at low fire settings.

Wireless line sharing network system, and administrative apparatus and method thereof

A wireless line sharing network system enabling the charge of fees according to the use of a wireless communication network as well as reduction in capital invested by a communication carrier. A user terminal that subscribes to a communication carrier accesses a corresponding communication carrier network at a licensed radio frequency through a wireless base station (BS) and a control station (10). In response to a call connection request, a call acceptance controller (101) accepts the call and reserves bandwidth based on a radio bandwidth allocation pattern defined by contract and current use conditions. A bandwidth determination section (107) determines bandwidth for the call connection request using the call connection request, a call connection acknowledgement and a bandwidth table (106). A rate change controller (103) controls bandwidths for user terminals so that the currently used bandwidth of each communication carrier are kept within a predetermined range. An accounting controller (110) charges each communication carrier according to the radio bandwidth lease agreement.

Method and apparatus for controlling a transfer case clutch to improve vehicle handling

In a motor vehicle driveline having an automatic transmission driveably connected to a transfer case whose output is continually connected to a first output, a clutch, selectively engaged in response to a control signal, driveably connects a second output to the first output. A digital computer continually monitors the occurrence of a change of clutch slip, input torque and a torque rate change to control the torque transmitted by the clutch to the second output. The control causes the clutch to transmit torque to the second output having a constant fraction of the input clutch torque and another portion that is proportional to the clutch slip. This result simulates the torque slip characteristics produced by transfer case having both a center differential mechanism and a viscous clutch.

Fuel injection control apparatus for internal combustion engine

In controlling power supply time, a variation in the fuel injection quantity caused by a variation in the fuel injection rate at the in-cylinder pressure of the engine (detected or estimated value in the running state of the internal combustion engine) relative to the fuel injection rate at a reference in-cylinder pressure (under the condition of an injector characteristic measuring benchmark test), and in addition, a variation in the fuel injection start time is corrected. In the calculation of the variation in the fuel injection quantity, a fuel injection rate changing behavior model in which changing behavior of the fuel injection rate is modeled as a trapezoid is used to calculate the areas of Δq1 and Δq2. The variation in the fuel injection start time Δτd is calculated based on the rail pressure and the variation in the in-cylinder pressure. In this way, there is provided a technology for controlling the fuel injection quantity that changes with a change in the in-cylinder pressure with improved accuracy.
