High speed connectors that minimize signal skew and crosstalk

ActiveUS20060068610A1Maximize signal densityMinimize intermingling electrical fieldsElectrically conductive connectionsPrinted circuitsPropagation timeCrosstalk minimization
The invention is an electrical connector that minimizes signal skew caused by varying propagation times through different transmission paths within the connector, minimizes crosstalk caused by intermingling electric fields between signal contacts, and maximizes signal density within the connector. The electrical connector may include a plug and receptacle housing, plug contacts, receptacle contacts, and contact plates. The contact plates may include connecting contacts that electrically connect plug contacts to receptacle contacts. The electrical connector minimizes signal skew by maintaining substantially equal-length transmission paths within the connector through varying the lengths and positions of plug and receptacle contacts. The electrical connector minimizes crosstalk by surrounding the connecting contacts with electrical ground by placing the connecting contacts in grooves of the connecting plates. Placing the contacts in such grooves maximizes the signal density of the contact by enabling the contacts to be placed in close proximity with other contacts while minimizing crosstalk.

Local MRI breast coil and method of use

A local breast coil is designed to be tightly coupled to the natural shape of the pendant breast to provide high SNR for diagnostic MR imaging applications, while still providing access for interventional procedures through openings in the coil. In accordance with one configuration, the coil has a symmetrical design, such that the coil can be rotated about the breast to position an opening in the coil proximate to a desired portion of the breast without incurring registration or other alignment or artifact errors due to inhomogeneous B1 excitation. Furthermore, the coil is designed to facilitate medial and lateral imaging of the breast. The coil is combined with a patient support system that facilitates rotation of the coil and interchangeability of the coil to match the configuration of the coil to the position of the breast being imaged.

Method and system for modular multiplexing and amplification in a multi-channel plan

A system and method for modular multiplexing and amplification of optical signals in subwindows within an operating window of a fiber optic communication network. An operating window is divided into subwindows. Optical signals in each subwindow are optically amplified separately and in parallel by a plurality of optical line amplifiers. According to one embodiment, the operating window is divided into four subwindows within an erbium wavelength band. Each subwindow corresponds to a different group of channels having optical signals of a different wavelength. Modular wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) units multiplex / demultiplex optical signals in the set of multiple channels. A modular WDM unit includes a coarse WDM unit and four fine WDM units. The coarse WDM multiplexes optical signals by wavelength into subwindows separated by relatively large guard bands. A fine WDM unit further multiplexes optical signals within a subwindow by wavelength into individual channels with a fine separation. Fine WDM units and optical line amplifiers can be added in a modular fashion, as needed, to support actual or anticipated traffic in the corresponding subwindows and channels therefor. Dispersion magnitude and slope can be managed across channels within subwindows without expensive equalization circuits. A multi-channel plan for high-speed WDM traffic in an erbium band can be adopted and installed in a modular fashion on existing single-mode fiber networks with less initial cost and more flexible design.

Apparatus and method to reduce signal cross-talk

A semiconductor chip package with reduced cross-talk between adjacent signals in a layer of a carrier is disclosed. A first pair of conductors for carrying a first signal is provided in a layer of the carrier. A second pair of conductors for carrying a second signal is provided adjacent to the first pair of conductors in the layer, where the first and second pairs of conductors are configured such that cross-talk between the first and second pairs of conductors is substantially minimized, without increasing the size of the package. The height of the first pair of conductors is shorter than the second pair of conductors. Alternatively, the first and second pairs of conductors are configured so that they evenly affect each other. The chip package thus reduces the cross-talk without compromising the density of the interconnections in the package or resulting in an increase in the size of the package.
