Multi-user remote health monitoring system with biometrics support

Abstract of the Disclosure The invention presents a networked system for identifying an individual, communicating information to the individual, and remotely monitoring the individual. The system includes a remotely programmable apparatus that occasionally connects to a server via a communication network such as the Internet. The remotely programmable apparatus interacts with the individual in accordance with a script program received from the server Among other capabilities, the script program may instruct the remotely programmable apparatus to identify the individual, to communicate information to the individual, to communicate queries to the individual, to receive responses to the queries, and to transmit information identifying the individual and the responses from the remotely programmable apparatus to the server. Information identifying the individual may be obtained via a biometrics sensor, a data card, a remote monitoring device, or the interception of data from a separate information system. The information identifying the individual may be used by either or both the server system and remotely programmable apparatus for security, customization and other purposes. As the present invention has multi-user capabilities, it can be used in a public place, such as a pharmacy or health care clinic. The multi-user capabilities also allow collection and tracking of user data for the healthcare industry.

Electrochemical biosensor strip for analysis of liquid samples

A biosensor in the form of a strip. In one embodiment, the biosensor strip comprises an electrode support, a first electrode, i.e., a working electrode, a second electrode, i.e., a counter electrode, and a third electrode, i.e., a reference electrode. Each of the electrodes is disposed on and supported by the electrode support. Each of the electrodes is spaced apart from the other two electrodes. The biosensor strip can include a covering layer, which defines an enclosed space over the electrodes. This enclosed space includes a zone where an analyte in the sample reacts with reagent(s) deposited at the working electrode. This zone is referred to as the reaction zone. The covering layer has an aperture for receiving a sample for introduction into the reaction zone. The biosensor strip can also include at least one layer of mesh interposed in the enclosed space between the covering layer and the electrodes in the reaction zone. This layer of mesh facilitates transporting of the sample to the electrodes in the reaction zone. In another embodiment, a biosensor strip can be constructed to provide a configuration that will allow the sample to be introduced to the reaction zone by action of capillary force. In this embodiment, the layer of mesh can be omitted. The invention also provides a method for determining the concentration of glucose in a sample of whole blood by using the biosensor of this invention.

System and method of microdispensing and arrays of biolayers provided by same

An efficient method for the microfabrication of electronic devices which have been adapted for the analyses of biologically significant analyte species is described. The techniques of the present invention allow for close control over the dimensional features of the various components and layers established on a suitable substrate. Such control extends to those parts of the devices which incorporate the biological components which enable these devices to function as biological sensors. The materials and methods disclosed herein thus provide an effective means for the mass production of uniform wholly microfabricated biosensors. Various embodiments of the devices themselves are described herein which are especially suited for real time analyses of biological samples in a clinical setting. In particular, the present invention describes assays which can be performed using certain ligand / ligand receptor-based biosensor embodiments. The present invention also discloses a novel method for the electrochemical detection of particular analyte species of biological and physiological significance using an substrate / label signal generating pair which produces a change in the concentration of electroactive species selected from the group consisting of dioxygen and hydrogen peroxide.

Method for preparing nanocomposite by using two-dimensional transition metal chalcogenide nanosheets and metal

The invention relates to a method for preparing a nanocomposite by using two-dimensional transition metal chalcogenide nanosheets and metal, and belongs to the field of nanomaterial synthesis. The method mainly includes adding a reducing agent and a stabilizing agent into monolayer or multi-layer two-dimensional transition metal chalcogenide nanosheet aqueous dispersion obtained after chemical intercalation, then injecting a certain amount of metal salt solution, and preparing the metal nanocomposite based on monolayer or few-layer two-dimensional transition metal chalcogenide nanosheets on the conditions of ice bath, hydrothermal method, microwaves, ultrasound and the like. In the composite, metal nanoparticles can be evenly distributed on the surfaces of the nanosheets, and the obtained composite can be evenly dispersed in water, and can be used in the solution phase and further processed. Through compositing of the metal nanoparticles, photoelectric property of two-dimensional transition metal chalcogenide can be improved, and the nanocomposite has good application prospects in the fields of supercapacitors, fuel cells and biosensors based on surface enhanced Raman detection, and the like.
