The invention relates to a method for enabling an infrared photography device to adapt to light, which comprises the following steps: firstly, presetting a shading object whose shading quantity can be adjusted on the surface of an image sensor of the infrared photography device, when the light intensity of the infrared photography device in a shooting scene, which is obtained from the measure of a photoreceptor or analyzing a pre-shot image by an analyzing unit, exceeds the preset value, confirming the ratio of the occupied area of a to-be shot object in the to-be formed image according to the focal distance of the infrared photography device, the clear and visual distance range of a corresponding lens, the optimum distance for imaging of the to-be shot object, then adjusting the shielding object according to the ratio and enabling the object to cover the corresponding part of the image sensor, which enables the uncovered part of the image sensor to induct infrared light reflected by the to-be shot object, thereby forming a corresponding clear image, preventing the defect of unclear images due to too strong light, reducing the monitoring risks exist in an existing infrared photography device for monitoring.
