Distributed systems and methods for automatically detecting unknown bots and botnets

Techniques may automatically detect bots or botnets running in a computer or other digital device by detecting command and control communications, called “call-backs,” from malicious code that has previously gained entry into the digital device. Callbacks are detected using a distributed approach employing one or more local analyzers and a central analyzer. The local analyzers capture packets of outbound communications, generate header signatures, and analyze the captured packets using various techniques. The techniques may include packet header signature matching against verified callback signatures, deep packet inspection. The central analyzer receives the header signatures and related header information from the local analyzers, may perform further analysis (for example, on-line host reputation analysis); determines using a heuristics analysis whether the signatures correspond to callbacks; and generally coordinates among the local analyzers.

Computer Implemented Method and System of Trading Indicators Based on Price and Volume

A method and system for providing trading indicators for selected instruments traded in a market such as stocks, currency contracts, bonds, commodities contracts, options contracts, and futures contracts. The method and system create trading indicators using Time and Sales data as provide by exchanges or financial data providers. The method comprise parsing time, price and volume of individual transactions into a collection of volume per price bracket per time interval quantities, wherein each quantity is an aggregate volume of transactions executed during one of a set of sequential time intervals and executed at prices within one of a set of price brackets. The method generate trading indicators by using mathematical algorithms to score individual volume per price bracket per time interval quantities corresponding to an evaluation time interval against a population of individual volume per price bracket per time interval quantities corresponding to a set of previous time intervals. The system generates trading indicators in real time, without the time lag associated to traditional technical analysis indicators. The method and system can also generate trend indicators based on analysis of volume accumulation, and defines trading indicators based on maximum volume prices.

Method for charting financial market activities

A method and apparatus for augmenting the conventional price-time chart used for technical analysis of securities price movements. In a preferred embodiment, the method takes a conventional Bar Chart or Japanese Candlestick Chart with a definite timeframe and then for each bar on the chart; it statistically quantifies the volume and time distribution throughout the range of the bar into discrete elements, using price and volume data within the bar interval from a sub-timeframe. The discrete elements are then graphically overlaid on the bar in a way which preserves its original appearance as close as possible. The apparatus is an application software which implements the method by displaying the conventional price-time chart, calculating the relevant elements and overlaying the values on the chart bars, either in a static or real-time market setting.

Negotiated access to promotional insertion opportunity

A technique (and corresponding system) for controlling access to insertion opportunities in a multi-channel streaming media system is provided. The technique receives parameters for access to the insertion opportunities from multiple advertisers, such as desired audience viewership profile characteristics. The technique evaluates the received parameters to select which advertisers gain access to the insertion opportunities to place promotional content. The technique analyzes an audience of the placed promotional content and identifies which of the possible promotional content optimizes the value of the insertion opportunities or other maxima. Unlike traditional advertising in which advertisers pay per expected viewership, the technique may be arranged to charge advertisers only for a targeted audience that viewed the placed promotional content. The technique thus enables advertisers to access disparate insertion opportunities and to target an audience at lower cost without having to establish relationships with owners of insertion opportunities.

Computerized method, process and service for stock investment timing

The invention is in the field of using a computer implemented method to calculate and provide recommendations for stock share investment timing. The process gathers price and volume data of listed firms from as many stock markets as implemented, only condition being that those markets price data are available over the Internet, in order to be able to automate the process. Analysing and calculation methods used within the process differ from those used in typical technical stock analyses in that the invention takes advantage of the known price history and uses statistical mathematics to categorize the current price to a recommended action: "sell', "buy' or "hold', while the most famous technical analysing methods typically try to predict the share price in the near future. The clear benefits of the process are that, after being set up properly, the process does not need human intervention, except in rare special cases, and furthermore, the calculated results are very easy to interpret even by persons without much experience in stock investing. Performance statistics clearly show that remarkable increase in profit of stock share investments can be gained by using the recommendations. The method has been implemented in a form of WWW-service and it is usable globally via the Internet. The method has been donated as StockMapper.

Cut set-based risk and reliability analysis for arbitrarily interconnected networks

Method for computing all-terminal reliability for arbitrarily interconnected networks such as the United States public switched telephone network. The method includes an efficient search algorithm to generate minimal cut sets for nonhierarchical networks directly from the network connectivity diagram. Efficiency of the search algorithm stems in part from its basis on only link failures. The method also includes a novel quantification scheme that likewise reduces computational effort associated with assessing network reliability based on traditional risk importance measures. Vast reductions in computational effort are realized since combinatorial expansion and subsequent Boolean reduction steps are eliminated through analysis of network segmentations using a technique of assuming node failures to occur on only one side of a break in the network, and repeating the technique for all minimal cut sets generated with the search algorithm. The method functions equally well for planar and non-planar networks.
