A receiver processes the reflected pulses received by the antenna unit and produces a corresponding output. A controller controls the operation of the transmitter, receiver and antenna unit, and analyzes the output of the receiver for the presence of moisture inside of the building wall.

Systems and methods transmit ultra-wide band radio frequency signals at, and receive echo signals from, the environment, process the received echo signals to yield a range-bin-based slow signal that is spatio-temporally characterized over multiple spatial range bins and multiple temporal sub-frames, respectively, and derive from the slow signal multiple characteristics of human(s) in the environment. The reception antennas may be arranged in several linear baselines, implement virtual displacements, and may be set into multiple communicating sub-arrays.
