Method and apparatus for deployment of ocean bottom seismometers

ActiveUS20060159524A1Effective movementEasy to deploySeismic signal receiversBuoysOcean bottom seismometerOrbit
A method and apparatus for deployment and retrieval of ocean bottom seismic receivers. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a carrier containing a plurality of receivers attached to a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The carrier comprises a frame in which is mounted a structure for seating and releasing said receivers. The structure may comprise a movable carousel or a movable conveyor or fixed parallel rails or a barrel. In the case of the barrel, the receivers are axially stacked therein. The structure is disposed to deliver said receivers to a discharge port on said frame, where the receivers are removable from said carrier. The apparatus includes a discharge mechanism for removing said receivers from said carrier. In another embodiment, the method comprises the steps of loading a carrier with a plurality of receivers, attaching said carrier to an ROV, utilizing said ROV to transport the carrier from a surface vessel to a position adjacent the seabed and thereafter utilizing said ROV to remove receivers from said carrier and place the receivers on the seabed. In yet another embodiment, an ROV adjacent the seabed engages a deployment line extending from the vessel. The deployment line is used to guide receivers attached thereto down to the ROV for “on-time” delivery and placement on the seabed.

Fluid property regulator

InactiveUS20080277492A1Low average atmospheric temperatureReduce greenhouse gasFog dispersionMachines/enginesAtmospheric airVolumetric Mass Density
A self-sufficient material property profile regulation method and system, for adjusting fluid property profiles such as in an ocean of multiple property layers, is described. Using this Fluid Property Regulator, the property profiles of a non-enclosed material, including property profiles related to material density, chemical characteristics and space-time position, are affected due to motion of the material relative to a body in the flow stream. The state of other matter with which the initial material then makes direct or indirect contact is also affected. For example, in the case of a liquid such as an ocean current, the temperature, salinity, nutrient content and other properties may be destratified (i.e. layers being combined) as the system lifts large quantities of deep water and combines this material with surface water in the downstream far-field region of the system. The resulting regulation of such ocean water property profiles may then also indirectly affect the properties of the atmosphere above the ocean so that the system can be said to affect planetary properties both oceanic and atmospheric. Rather than merely discharging a pumped material, such as cold water that might quickly re-submerge, the system regulates lasting property profiles. The new Fluid Property Regulator system described in this invention regulates material properties to produce desired outcomes such as increased food and energy production as well as to prevent undesirable outcomes such as hurricanes, elevated planetary temperatures, decreased planetary ice sheet size, raised sea level and glacial freshwater incursions that can halt important major currents.

Application of waterborne back-coating emulsion (humectant) in packaging industry

The invention provides an application of a waterborne back-coating emulsion (humectant), and in particular discloses an application of the waterborne back-coating emulsion (humectant) in the packaging industry. The waterborne back-coating emulsion (humectant) is coated on the back surface of a piece of paper before an article is packaged by the paper, namely the waterborne back-coating emulsion (humectant) is pre-coated on the back surface of the paper by virtue of a coating machine before the article is packaged by the paper, wherein the waterborne back-coating emulsion (humectant) accounts for 0.8-2.4% of the weight of the paper, is obtained by the steps of adding an appropriate amount of an auxiliary agent into an acrylic resin solution, mixing, stirring for dispersion and filtering, is simple and convenient to prepare and is obvious in effect. By applying the waterborne back-coating emulsion (humectant) to the packaging industry, particularly, the aluminized paper processing industry, the flatness of the paper cannot be reduced due to changes of air humidity in the long-term storage process of the paper, so that the paper is ensured to be beautiful, the operation is relatively simple and smooth in the use processes including printing and the like, and special requirements on equipment are avoided.

Cross-linked polyvinyl butyral binder for organic photoconductor

The invention is a self-cross-linked polyvinyl butyral (PVB) binder for organic photoconductors (OPC's) used in electrophotography. The no cross-linked form of the binder is available from Monsanto Co. in the U.S.A. a Butvar TM , and from Sekisui Chemical Co. in Japan as Slek TM . I discovered that the PVB may be self-cross-linked by subjecting it to a thermal cure at between about 150 DEG -300 DEG C. for about 2 hours. I think other ways of cross-linking, for example, e-beam, UV or X-ray radiation, will achieve results similar to those I obtained with heat. No cross-linker, nor cross-linkable copolymer nor catalyst is required to accomplish the cross-linking. After self-cross-linking, the PV has good mechanical durability and good anti-solvent characteristics. In addition, he self-cross-linked PVB's glass transition temperature (Tg) increases from about 65 DEG C. to about 170 DEG C. Also, when conventional photoconductor pigments are dispersed in the self-cross-linked PVB, they are well dispersed, and the resulting OPC's have good charge acceptance, low dark decay, and, in general, good photodischarge characteristics. Also, OPC's with the self-cross-linked PVB exhibited improved adhesion, so multi-layered OPC's made according to this invention will hav improved inter-layer bonding and longer economic lives.

Three-level ANPC (active neutral-point-clamped) convertor neutral-point voltage balance control method

ActiveCN106787888ANo added complexityNo added switching lossesAc-dc conversionThree levelEngineering
The invention relates to a three-level ANPC convertor neutral-point voltage balance control method. The method comprises the following steps of (1) acting on a three-level ANPC convertor through an SVPWM (space vector pulse width modulation) pulse sequence; (2) detecting the voltage of the direct current side capacitor of the convertor in real time to obtain a neutral-point voltage, and comparing the neutral-point voltage with a reference neutral-point voltage to determine whether the direct current side capacitor requires charging or discharging; (3) in real time detecting the positive and negative direction of the three-phase load current of the convertor; (4) integrating detecting values of the steps (2) and (3), within every switching period, dynamically adjust the duty ratio of the zero state of the switch sequence of a three-phase bridge arm until neutral-point voltage balance, and repeating the step to maintain fluctuation of the neutral-point voltage within a relatively small range. The three-level ANPC convertor neutral-point voltage balance control method can dynamically adjust the charging and discharging time of the capacitor according to the direction of the three-phase load current and the size of the neutral-point voltage to rapidly balance of the neutral-point voltage and to maintain fluctuation of the neutral-point voltage within a relatively small range.
