Audio signal processing device

The audio signal processing device of the present invention arranges objects in a virtual three-dimensional space and generates audio signals by performing, at a prescribed listening position, audio simulation to sounds generated from a prescribed sounding position. This invention is characterized in that the sound field space subject to audio simulation is structured by combining spatial objects and audio simulation is performed thereto. Here, “spatial object” shall mean the space (sound field space) for audio simulation which was simply modeled in order to simplify audio simulation, and is a virtual object provided with prescribed audio parameters. The sound field space is structured by combining these spatial objects.

Practical Modeling and Acquisition of Layered Facial Reflectance

Techniques are described for modeling layered facial reflectance consisting of specular reflectance, single scattering, and shallow and deep subsurface scattering. Parameters of appropriate reflectance models can be estimated for each of these layers, e.g., from just 20 photographs recorded in a few seconds from a single view-point. Spatially-varying specular reflectance and single-scattering parameters can be extracted from polarization-difference images under spherical and point source illumination. Direct-indirect separation can be employed to decompose the remaining multiple scattering observed under cross-polarization into shallow and deep scattering components to model the light transport through multiple layers of skin. Appropriate diffusion models can be matched to the extracted shallow and deep scattering components for different regions on the face. The techniques were validated by comparing renderings of subjects to reference photographs recorded from novel viewpoints and under novel illumination conditions. Related geometry acquisition systems and software products are also described.

Multi-channel hierarchical audio coding with compact side information

A parametric representation of a multi-channel audio signal describes the spatial properties of the audio signal well with compact side information when a coherence information, describing the coherence between a first and a second channel, is derived within a hierarchical encoding process only for channel pairs including a first channel having only information of a left side with respect to a listening position and including a second channel having only information from a right side with respect to a listening position. As within the hierarchical process the multiple audio channels of the audio signal are downmixed iteratively into monophonic channels, one can pick the relevant parameters from an encoding step involving only channel pairs carrying the information needed to describe the spatial properties of the multi-channel audio signal.

Singlet telescopes with controllable ghosts for laser beam forming

A singlet telescope is provided for reshaping the laser beam to a larger or smaller diameter while maintaining the inherent quality of the beam. Applications for the singlet telescope include intercavity expansion to accommodate the damage thresh-old of various components, expansion of beams to match the size of different wavelengths for final collimation, and shrinking of beams to provide high irradiance for nonlinear processes such as optical parametric oscillation and frequency doubling, with the above applications usually requiring low power magnification or demagnification. Problems involving the utilization of these telescopes over wide temperature ranges and ghost reflections in which a light is reflected back to a pumping laser are minimized with the singlet construction, with the ghost reflections potentially creating damage of components including self-damage or breakdown of air, as well as damage to a Q-switched resonator which causes pre-lasing.

Method for performing recoverable video and image watermarking which survives block-based video and image compression

A method for performing recoverable image and video watermarking which survives the use of block-based image and video compression techniques. One or more of the lowest order bits of the first DCT coefficient (the “DC” coefficient) which is to be coded are used as a “data channel” by which information representing a recoverable watermark may be embedded into an image or into a video signal frame. Encoding is performed by replacing one or more low order bits of the luminance value of each pixel in a block with a number of bits of the watermark data, and decoding is performed by averaging one or more low order bits of the decoded luminance values of the pixels in a block to retrieve a corresponding number of bits of the watermark data.

Laminated imaged recording media

The present invention provides a method for manufacturing an identification document that can contain both common information and unique information describing the specific document holder. The information is in the form of indicia applied by digital imaging means. The document itself is in the form of a laminated article having the information affixed to one or more internal layers. Attempt to gain access to these internally imaged layers causes the image to be sufficiently disrupted as to prevent modifying such images.

Image forming apparatus

An image forming apparatus has a latent image carrier on which a latent image is formed. A developer carrier conveys a one-component non-magnetic developer and develops the latent image either in close proximity to or in contact with the latent image carrier. A voltage application unit applies an AC-superimposed bias voltage to the developer carrier. A regulating member abuts against the developer carrier to regulate the thickness of the developer layer on the developer carrier. The regulating member has a semiconductive member provided at the distal end thereof to produce an electric potential difference between the semiconductive member and the developer carrier, to which the AC-superimposed bias voltage is applied, when regulating the thickness of the developer layer on the developer carrier, thereby forming a line-shaped uneven conveying surface. Thus, the occurrence of banding and longitudinal unevenness and stripes is prevented, and fogging and scattering are also prevented. Further, the occurrence of filming is prevented, thereby allowing formation of a uniform image free from density unevenness.
