The reflective element is adapted to at least partially transmit the infrared radiation so that reduced reflection of the infrared radiation occurs toward the lens. The lens may include an optical element which functions to substantially transmit the visible radiation through the optical element and the lens while at least partially reflecting the infrared radiation generally away from the lens.

The compositional formula of the metal ammine complexes is M(NH3)nXz, where MZ+ represents one or more metal ions capable of binding ammonia, X represents one or more anions, n is the coordination number (from 2 to 12), and z the valency of the metal ion (and thus the total number of compensating anion charges). Ammonia is released by generating a reduced gas-phase pressure of ammonia inside the container, which is below the equilibrium desorption pressure of ammonia at the operating temperature of the storage material thus enabling the unit to be operated is a safe manner with lower operating temperature and pressure.

Diaphragm valve for high-temperature precursor supply in atomic layer deposition

A diaphragm valve includes a heating body that thermally contacts a valve body of the valve and extends proximal to a diaphragm of the valve opposite a valve passage through which medium flows. The heating body forms a thermally conductive pathway between the valve body and the diaphragm that facilitates maintaining an operating temperature at the diaphragm. When used in an atomic layer deposition (ALD) system, the diaphragm valve inhibits condensation or freezing of high-temperature ALD precursor gases in the valve passage. A plunger including thermally insulating features preferably extends through a central opening in the heating body to operably couple a valve actuator to the diaphragm. In some embodiments, a thermally resistive member may be interposed between the valve passage and the actuator for attenuating heat transfer between the valve passage and the actuator.

Fluid treatment process and apparatus

A water treatment process whereby heat is used and recaptured to pasteurize water and or sewage effluent. Contaminated waters are partially treatable utilizing bacterial and chemical processes; however some bacteria (e.g. Cryptosporidium and Giardia) are resistant to chemicals. The present process raises the temperature of the water to a desired pasteurization temperature and for a corresponding required length of time to destroy pathogens and viruses. A heat exchanger is employed to use the waste heat from the pasteurization tank to pre-heat the fluid entering the tank. After the initial heating of the tank, the pre-heating reduces the required heat to maintain the temperature of the tank. Make-up heat increases the temperature within a small temperature range. The make-up heat may be waste heat from a separate process.

A computer cooling system devised with a computer housing, which is a sealed body and has a plurality of paths. An end portion of the sealed body is connected to a heat conducting plate via pipes thereof. The heat conducting plate is directly attached to a CPU, hard disc or other computer components that need heat dissipation. The paths of the housing are filled with a cooling liquid that is circulated between an interior of the housing and the heat conducting plate using a pump, thereby rapidly lowering temperatures of the computer components to which the heat conducting plate is attached. The housing is made of a material such as aluminum having a good thermal conductance coefficient. In conjunction with circulation of the cooling liquid, temperatures in the computer are rapidly exchanged by the housing and thus controlled within a recommended operating temperature range.

The mount may include a thermoelectrical module coupled to a sub-element of a heat exchanger extending through an opening formed in the optical bench. The thermoelectrical module acts as a heat sink to draw heat outwardly from the laser diode and cool the same. The heat sink enables the laser diode to transmit heat thereto such that substantially all of the heat generated by the laser diode sinks to the heat exchanger. As such, the laser diode transfers virtually no heat to the optical bench so the optical bench is free of deflections or distortions resultant from the heat generated during generation of the laser beam.

The invention can be a method for maintaining an operating temperature of a power plant during shut-down periods. The method can include, during shut-down of the power plant, generating heat with an electric heater in order to approximately maintain the operating temperature of the power plant. The method can use electric power to operate the electric heater, where at least some of the electric power is from an electricity grid external to the power plant. The method can continue to generate heat with the electric heater as long as at least one of the electrical prices and the demand for electricity indicate that it will be more efficient to use electric power from the electricity grid to generate heat with the electric heater than to more completely shut down or restart the power plant.

A computer cooling system devised with a computer housing, which is a sealed body and has a plurality of paths. An end portion of the sealed body is connected to a heat conducting plate via pipes thereof. The heat conducting plate is directly attached to a CPU, hard disc or other computer components that need heat dissipation. The paths of the housing are filled with a cooling liquid that is circulated between an interior of the housing and the heat conducting plate using a pump, thereby rapidly lowering temperatures of the computer components to which the heat conducting plate is attached. A method and apparatus for controlling the electrical power applied to an electrically driven oxygen separation device having one or more composite membrane elements to separate oxygen from an oxygen containing feed. The composite membrane elements have a resistance increasing during the operation thereof that would act to reduce oxygen output if applied voltage were held constant. In order to increase the time interval for renewing the composite membrane elements, the electrical potential difference is controlled such that the electric current drawn by the elements remains at a substantially constant level by increasing the electrical potential difference as the resistance increases until a predetermined voltage level is reached. Once this level is obtained, the electrical potential difference is maintained at a constant level and the electric current being drawn and the oxygen output is allowed to decay to a predetermined low level after which the element or elements are replaced.

A solid oxide fuel cell C including a solid oxide fuel cell having a planar solid oxide substrate, a cathode electrode layer formed on one surface of the substrate, and an anode electrode layer formed on a surface opposite the one surface, is disposed so that the anode electrode layer opposes a catalytically-oxidizing member 13 of a heating appliance. Fuel supplied from a fuel storage container 10 is subjected to flameless combustion in the catalytically-oxidizing member by catalytic oxidation. Simultaneously, produced oxidation fuel components of the fuel are supplied to the anode electrode layer; and air is supplied to the cathode electrode layer. Hence, the fuel cell generates electric power.
