Authentication system and method

An authentication system using a correlator that correlates an input with a reference wherein at least one of the input and reference comprises a phase volume mask having structures, preferably points, that are each less than about six microns in size and can have an aspect ratio (AR) greater than 1:1 so as to produce a phase encoded random pattern having millions of combinations in a mask that is as small as one square millimeter. The random pattern can be convolved with a second pattern, such as a biometric pattern, to produce a phase convolved mask. The correlator preferably is a nonlinear joint transform correlator that can use “chirp” encoding to permit the input to be located in a different plane than the reference. The correlator optically Fourier transforms images of the reference and input that are thereafter nonlinearly transformed and inverse Fourier transformed by a processor to determine the presence or absence of a correlation spike indicative of authenticity. A spatial light modulator (SLM) can be used as an input or reference and preferably is a liquid crystal panel having pixels or elements whose phase or grey scale intensity can be selectively controlled by a processor. The SLM can be used to display a biometric pattern, preferably scanned in real time from a person, that is correlated against an input or reference that can comprise a label on a card, a tag, or another object.

Modified cellulose aggregate material

InactiveUS6843844B1Effectively and efficiently saturatedMinimizes shrinkageSolid waste managementCellulose fiberAlternative methods
A process and method is disclosed for producing a cellulose modified aggregate cement. The process and method advantageously applies a fortifying solution to a dry cellulose material so as to enable substantially complete absorption of the vital components of the solution into and upon the cellulose fibers. The fortifying solution also imparts to and forms a mixture with the fiber so as to provide sufficient water for hydration and cure of cement added thereto, without the need to extract excess water therefrom, thereby preventing the loss of said vital fortifying agents from the aggregate cement formed thereby. Upon admixing cement into the solution treated fibers, a plastic mixture of concrete is formed, well adapted for pouring into press molds for the fabrication of lightweight, high strength construction forms. In an alternative embodiment, a means of forming a raw aggregate material, while simultaneously reclaiming submerged land is disclosed. In the alternative process and method, cellulose waste material is added to submerged land to absorb, and form a wet pile of material there within. The waste material is then allowed to dry. Thereafter the material is treated with anti-mold agents, re-dried and purified / comminuted into cellulose fibers. Thereafter, the material is treated with fortifying agents in a pool. The material is once again allowed to dry and thereafter pressure treated with activating and water proofing materials to yield a raw cellulose modified aggregate.

Apparatus and method of forming parts

A closed system and method that includes a source of pressurizeable molten lead connected to a mold having a mold cavity therein with the mold maintainable at sufficiently low temperature so that a charge of molten lead located in the mold cavity solidifies to thereby form a solidified casting in the mold cavity. A housing having a runner, is maintainable at sufficiently high temperature to maintain the molten lead in a molten state so that the mold cavity can be refilled with a fresh charge molten lead when a solidified casting is removed therefrom without introducing air to the closed system. A shut-off valve, having an open position to allow a charge of molten lead to flow into the mold cavity and a closed position to prevent molten lead from flowing out of the runner as the molten lead in mold cavity solidifies with the shut-off valve configurable to intensify the pressure of the lead in the mold cavity.

Fast processing water based binder system

A water based binder for use in a slurry for investment casting. The binder includes a mixture of a colloidal silica sol and at least one latex polymer. The latex polymer is preferably an acrylic latex or a styrene butadiene polymer (or a combination of these) which reduces the processing time between dips during shell mold making for investment casting. The latex polymer further lowers a critical concentration point or gelation point of the colloidal silica sol. The binder may be used as a primary binder or a backup binder in the shell mold making process. To make the slurry, the binder is combined with at least one refractory powder, preferably a refractory powder selected from the group of: alumino-silicates, fused silica, quartz silica, alumina, zircon, and zirconia.

Subsea protective cap

A cap for covering an open upper end of a subsea structure includes a base and a body. The base has a size, after shrinkage, at least slightly larger than the exterior of the open upper end of the subsea structure. The body is connected to the base and projects downward from the base. The body has an open bottom. The cap is positioned over the open upper end of the subsea structure with the base of the cap resting on the open upper end of the subsea structure and the body of the cap forms a wall around the exterior of the open upper end of the subsea structure for inhibiting the cap from slipping off the open upper end of the subsea structure.

Sustained release air freshening device

This invention relates to a device that provides controlled release of a fragrant or deodorizing substance: the fragrant or deodorizing substance being solublized with an appropriate carrier solvent within a polymeric matrix. The layers function as protective barriers, semi-permeable membranes, fragrance reservoirs, and adhesives. The device is capable of delivering a fragrance at a controlled rate for a prolonged period of time through the gradual diffusion and release of fragrant material carried by a solvent from a reservoir system to the semi-permeable UV curable, oligomer composition acting a fragrance release regulator. Additionally, the UV curable, oligomeric composition that forms the reservoir and regulating layer can be engineered to be adhesive through cure inhibition. The method of cure inhibition can also be utilized to create internal areas of high and low cross link density to further control the release rate of a fragrance.
