A method to estimate segmented motion uses phase correlation to identify local motion candidates and a region-growing algorithm to group small picture units into few distinct regions, each of which has its own motion according to optimal matching and grouping criteria. Phase correlation and region growing are combined which allows sharing of information. Using phase correlation to identify a small number of motion candidates allows the space of possible motions to be narrowed. The region growing uses efficient management of lists of matching criteria to avoid repetitively evaluating matching criteria.

There is provided a high-definition and small-parallax active-driving organic EL display apparatus capable of avoiding complication of manufacturing processes and skyrocketing in component and material expenses. A plurality of organic EL elements BU, GU, and RU are multi-layered in a single subpixel area. All of active elements (i.e., thin-film transistors TFTs) to be connected to the multi-layered organic EL elements are formed between an insulating substrate SUB and the layer of the organic EL element BU which is the most proximate to this insulating substrate. This configuration makes it possible to avoid the second-layer or upper organic EL elements GU and RU from being damaged by the high-heat processing in the manufacturing processes. Accordingly, it becomes possible to implement long life-expectancy of the organic EL display apparatus. Also, inter-layer spacing between the organic EL elements can be made narrower. Consequently, it becomes possible to make the parallax exceedingly smaller.

Heat pump hot-water supply system

The object of the present invention is to provide a compact lightweight heat pump hot-water supply system. The hot-water supply system heats water through heat exchange between high-temperature refrigerant of a heat pump circuit and water of a water circulating circuit. The system is an instantaneous water heater unit for instantaneously heating, at a water heat exchanger, water supplied through a water supply pipe and supplying hot water to a using end unit. In this system, therefore, large-capacity hot-water storage tank in conventional systems is no longer needed. Sufficient heat of condensation to heat water can not be produced, because pressure conditions of the heat pump circuit is not stabilized just after the start of operation. Therefore, during a short period of rising time, hot water stored in a hot-water supply tank and water from the water heat exchanger are mixed and the mixture is supplied to keep the hot water at a preset temperature. It is, therefore, possible to downsize the hot-water supply tank.

Method and apparatus for optical signal processing using an optical tapped delay line

An Optical Tapped Delay Line (OTDL), which resolves multiple wavelength signals having extremely narrow wavelength spacing, is combined with other known optical devices to provide a wide variety of optical signal processing applications, including: multiplexing and de-multiplexing a multi-channel signal; adding a signal to, or dropping a signal from, a multi-channel optical signal; specialized coding processing such as generating code division multiple access signals; wavelength locking (stabilizing) a signal; filtering a signal; and analyzing and monitoring a signal spectrum. The OTDL spatially separates individual channels to allow separate processing on each channel. Fixed and tunable embodiments are identified in appropriate cases. Bulk, hybrid, and integrated optical embodiment and methods of fabrication are described, as are curved self-focusing and evanescent embodiments of OTDL devices. The devices and processes disclosed have particular application to dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) and permit a significant improvement in the quantity of information that can be carried on DWDM signals while enhancing signal quality.

Abnormal conditions within an RF-powered plasma process chamber are detected by detecting whether the frequency of a variable-frequency RF power supply moves outside established lower and upper limits. In a first aspect, a first pair of lower and upper limits are established as a function of the frequency of the power supply sampled after a new process step begins or after a sample control signal changes state. In a second aspect, a second pair of lower and upper limits are not adapted to the frequency of the power supply. Both aspects preferably are used together to detect different occurrences of abnormal conditions.
