A method of recovering hydrocarbons from hydrocarbonaceous materials can include forming a stationary permeability control infrastructure. This constructed infrastructure defines a substantially encapsulated volume. A comminuted hydrocarbonaceous material can be introduced into the control infrastructure to form a permeable body of hydrocarbonaceous material. The permeable body can be heated sufficient to remove hydrocarbons therefrom within a temperature range which is sufficient to substantially avoid formation of carbon dioxide or non-hydrocarbon leachates. During heating the hydrocarbonaceous material is substantially stationary as the constructed infrastructure is a fixed structure. Removed hydrocarbons can be collected for further processing, use in the process, and/or use as recovered.

This invention relates to a catalyst and a process for treating heavy hydrocarbons using the catalyst. The catalyst is useful for treating heavy hydrocarbons, de-metallize oil (DMO) and is particularly useful in VGO/DMO hydrocarbon blend. It is also useful for DAO. The catalyst acts to catalytically convert the VGO/DMO blend to shorter-chain valuable hydrocarbon products. The catalyst includes a catalytic support material, a catalytic metal impregnated upon the catalytic support material, and a promoter metal on the catalytic support material to enhance catalytic conversion. The combination of the catalytic support material with catalytic metal and promoter metal is operable to catalytically convert VGO/DMO into hydrocarbon products having shorter carbon chains.

Cell culture methods are presented wherein glucose is fed in a restricted manner to cell culture; this restricted feeding of glucose to the cell culture results in lactate production being controlled to a low level. The restricted feeding of glucose in a fed-batch process is not accomplished through a constant-rate feeding of glucose, and the restricted feeding need not depend on sampling. Instead, restricted feeding of glucose to the culture is accomplished through feeding of glucose to the culture at a rate that is a function of an expected or a premodeled rate of glucose consumption by the animal cells when exposed to medium containing a high level of glucose. Because lactate production is controlled to low levels, recombinant protein production is increased.

The present invention provides glass fiber fabric reinforcements, cement boards, and glass fiber coatings for such reinforcements. The glass fiber fabric reinforcement includes a glass fabric containing multiple yarns containing glass filaments and a polymeric coating disposed onto the multiple yarns to form a coated glass fabric. The polymeric coating comprises a polyolefin based copolymer composition whereby the glass fabric has a Gurley Stiffness measurement of about 100-3000 mg and an ASTM D 638 (2% Secant) modulus of compression of about 1-100 MPa. A method of producing a range of diatomaceous earth filter aids having selectable permeabilities and less than about 1 percent by weight total crystalline silica. The method includes milling diatomaceous earth ore to a size range of between about 100 micrometers and about 1400 micrometers; calcining the milled diatomaceous earth in a calciner; and milling the calcined diatomaceous earth in an adjustable milling and classification system to produce diatomaceous earth filter aids. Methods are disclosed for producing C₈ aromatic hydrocarbons. Representative methods comprise (a) fractionating an aromatic hydrocarbon containing feed stream (e.g., a feed stream comprising C₉ and/or C₁₀ aromatic hydrocarbons), to provide at least one methylated aromatic hydrocarbon-enriched fraction; and (b) reacting at least a portion of the at least one methylated aromatic hydrocarbon-enriched fraction in a transalkylation reaction zone to provide a transalkylation effluent comprising the C₈ aromatic hydrocarbons. The presence of a methylated aromatic hydrocarbon-enriched fraction in the inlet stream to the transalkylation reaction zone provides a number of advantages as described herein.
