The invention comprises a totally implantable hearing prosthesis for hearing impaired persons. An inertial vibrational element is hermetically sealed and implanted in bone between the lateral and superior semicircular canals without breaching the integrity of the canals. The vibrational element is adapted to vibrate the walls of the canals and the fluids contained therein, thereby vibrating contiguous fluids within the cochlea thus stimulating hair cells and creating a hearing percept. The invention can also be adapted to be a tinnitus masking system, and/or used in combination with a coehlear implant hearing system.

The present invention provides a microscale pressure sensor that exhibits high sensitivity in a small form factor. The sensor is a bridged device in which a photonic crystal waveguide, surrounded by a photonic crystal slab, is suspended over a dielectric substrate. Under applied pressure, the photonic crystal waveguide is deflected toward the substrate, causing a decrease in optical transmission across the waveguide due to the coupling of the evanescent field of the guided mode to the dielectric substrate. A lubrication control device for a transmission includes an oil pump, a heat exchanger, an oil quantity control valve, a first bypass oil passage, and an electronic control unit. The heat exchanger is connected between the oil pump and a lubricated portion of the transmission. The oil quantity control valve includes an inflow port, a supply port, and a discharge port. The supply port is connected to the heat exchanger. The oil quantity control valve is configured to control a supply oil quantity as a flow rate of the oil flowing from the inflow port to the supply port and discharge a residue of the oil from the discharge port. The first bypass oil passage is connected to the discharge port. The electronic control unit is configured to adjust the oil quantity control valve such that the supply oil quantity increases as a temperature of the oil increases.
