Techniques are described for constructing filter type features capable of entrapping particle contaminants to eliminate printing defects. These techniques utilize photo-imageable barrier material to fabricate various shapes and forms to reduce feature sizes. Several of these techniques utilize barrier material of height less than barrier materials used to fabricate ink feed channels and firing chamber walls. Another variation describes creation of a filter mesh from two layers of reduced height barrier materials.

A mini DIN connector comprises an insulative housing, a number of terminals secured in the housing, a shield and a bottom cover. Side walls of the shield each include a cutout and an L-shaped boardlock extending from an upper edge of each cutout for securing the connector to a circuit board. The circuit board forms a cutout for receiving the connector. A support portion projects from each lateral face for engaging an edge of the cutout of the circuit board. When the boardlocks secure the connector to the circuit board, a bottom of the housing is located below the circuit board. Thus, the height of the connector above the circuit board is reduced. In addition, the bottom cover is mounted to the bottom of the housing thereby improving shielding against EMI.

A flash-memory-drive card has a Universal-Serial-Bus (USB) connector. The card has a printed-circuit board (PCB) that fits into a perimeter frame that surrounds the edges of the PCB. Metal or plastic upper and lower covers are snapped onto the frame to encapsulate the PCB. The USB connector can be a Full USB connector plug that extends from the perimeter frame and has a centerline approximately matching the PCB centerline for a balanced design, or can be a slim or reduced-height USB connector plug that has a frame closure bar that fits inside closure fittings on the perimeter frame. The USB connector can also be made from a frame extension that has four frame slots through the frame. The PCB has four PCB fingers that are inserted through the frame slots during assembly so that the PCB fingers fit within depressions in the frame extension to form the USB connector plug.

A heat exchanger comprises at least one tube or plate pair defining a fluid flow passage which is reduced in height across a portion of its width. A turbulizer comprising a plurality of rows of convolutions is received inside the fluid flow passage in either the low pressure drop or high pressure drop orientation. The turbulizer includes convolutions of reduced height in order to at least partially fill the reduced-height portions of the fluid flow passage and thereby reduce bypass flow. In some preferred embodiments of the invention, heat exchanger tubes or plate pairs define fluid flow passages which are reduced in height along their edges, and the turbulizer is similarly reduced in height along its edges.

A structure such that a socket connector manufactured less expensively can engage with a base connector more reliably, adapted to employment in high-voltage connectors of a reduced height. The socket connector (1) has a socket housing (2) in which socket contacts (12) secured on wire ends (11) are placed side by side. The base connector (21) is of a shape to be surface-mounted on a printed circuit board (20). The socket housing (2) has a pair of lock arms (6) extending forwards from a rear end of and along lateral sides (4) of the socket housing. The socket housing further has tie pieces (5) capable of elastic deformation and formed integral with the lateral sides so as to support and operatively connect the lock arms (6) to the socket housing. The lock arms (6) have fore ends formed integral with hooks (7) projecting inwards and towards each other, and the lock arms (6) further have push lugs (8) extending backwards from their rear ends so as to be located in rear of the tie pieces (5). When engaging the connectors one with the other, the lock arms (6) will be guided forwards along respective sides (25) of the base housing (22) until latched in place by and with the rear edge of this housing.
