A charged particle optical system comprising a beamlet generator for generating a plurality of beamlets of charged particles and an electrostatic deflector for deflecting the beamlets. The electrostatic deflector comprises first and second electrodes adapted for connection to a voltage for generating an electric field between the electrodes for deflection of the beamlets, the electrodes being at least partially freestanding in an active area of the electrostatic deflector. The electrodes define at least one passing window for passage of at least a portion of the beamlets between the electrodes, the passing window having a length in a first direction and a width in a transverse direction. The system is adapted to arrange the beamlets in at least one row and to direct a single row of the beamlets through the passing window of the electrostatic deflector, the beamlets of the row extending in the first direction. A substantial part of the electrostatic deflector extends beyond the passing window in the first direction.

A method of determining a fault direction parameter of a fault on an AC transmission line of a power distribution system relative to a measurement location of the transmission line. The method includes measuring a time-dependent AC current of the transmission line at the measurement location to obtain time-domain current data indicative of the measured current, obtaining a time of the fault on the transmission line, identifying first and second times by identifying a periodically re-occurring feature of the current data, such that the fault time is between the first and second times, extracting, from the current data, an offset indicative parameter indicative of a time offset of the current at the fault time and between the first and second times, calculating an offset direction parameter by comparing the offset indicative parameter to a non-offset indicative parameter, and establishing the fault direction parameter based on the offset direction parameter.

A method for geographically registering a perspective image of a location assigns elevation values to elements or pixels of a two dimensional array of image elements or pixels of the location. The elevation value for each image pixel is obtained using a corresponding database stored reference digital elevation model, or a three dimensional surface model of the location. The reference elevation model or surface model is composed of rows and columns of elevation values corresponding to two dimensions of location values at a sensed location shown in the image, or is composed of a three dimensional surface or volume model of the location, such as a computer-aided design model or any other means of describing the three dimensional characteristics of the sensed location.

A one-transistor (1T) NVRAM cell that utilizes silicon carbide (SiC) to provide both isolation of non equilibrium charge, and fast and non destructive charging/discharging. To enable sensing of controlled resistance (and many memory levels) rather than capacitance, the cell incorporates a memory transistor that can be implemented in either silicon or Sic. The 1T cell has diode isolation to enable implementation of the architectures used in the present flash memories, and in particular the NOR and the NAND arrays. A dissolvable jet vane (22/30) is a composite structure, having a support frame (38), a plug leading edge (40) connected to the forward edge (42) of the frame (38), and an insulation layer (44) on the side walls of the support frame (38). The dissolvable jet vane materials withstand the pressure and thermal loads associated with missile steering during the first few seconds of rocket boost until the missile attains sufficient speed to use conventional external aerodynamic control fins for steering control. Once control passes to the external fins, the jet vanes rapidly and uniformly dissolve in the exhaust stream. The dissolvable jet vane provides a lightweight, reliable means of removing steering jet vanes from the exhaust stream of a solid rocket motor nozzle.

A clutch assembly is provided for use in a vehicle having an automatic transmission, the assembly including a clutch-apply piston and an integrated one-way clutch, dog clutch apply plate, and synchronizer clutch having a synchronizer plate and a rotating synchronizer cone. Upon speed synchronization, continued axial displacement of the clutch-apply piston completes engagement of the dog clutch apply plate to achieve a coast gear state. A return spring provides a return spring force for disengaging the clutch apply piston to permit selection of an alternate gear state during a subsequent gear shifting event.

A process and a device for contactless measurement of rotational speed with a proximity sensor operating according to the eddy current principle. The proximity sensor comprises an inductor and a capacitor connected in parallel that form an oscillating circuit which can be excited from outside, and where the resonant frequency of the oscillating circuit experiences a detectable change when an object to be measured approaches the proximity sensor. In various embodiments, the resonant frequency of the oscillating circuit or the excitation frequency of the oscillating circuit is controlled as a reaction to slow changes of the resonant frequency in such a manner that the oscillating circuit is always excited with its resonant frequency or with a frequency close to its resonant frequency and that rapid changes are detected as a measurement signal for the measurement of rotational speed.

Described is a method for controlling a temperature downstream of a catalyst in the exhaust tract of an internal combustion engine including a first control loop in which a first control variable is calculated from a first deviation that is calculated from a first actual value and a first setpoint value and influences an intra-engine heat generation. In the process, the first actual value is determined as a measure of a temperature downstream of the catalyst. The method features a second control loop in which at least one second control variable is calculated from a second deviation that is calculated from a second actual value and a second setpoint value; a temperature upstream of the catalyst being determined as the second actual value. Also described is a controller which controls the sequence of such a method.

The present invention is a portable wire pulling device that receives and utilizes the rotational power and control features and functions of a cordless, battery-operated electric hand drill to selectively drive a rotatable reel of the portable wire pulling device with sufficient torque and speed to efficiently and quickly pull a wire thereby. The wire pulling device has a frame configured to rotatably carry and selectively position a take-up reel, and a drive interface coupled to the reel and having an input drive shaft configured to receive the hand drill for applying rotational power to the drive mechanism to rotate the reel. No on-site power is needed. The frame extends from a folded position into an upright position and into an angled position in order to pull wire for different applications.

The present invention is directed to rigid disposable food containers provided with a relatively steep sidewall with a generally linear profile and an outwardly flared arcuate flange portion. The containers are further characterized by a flange outer vertical drop wherein the ratio of the length of the vertical drop to the characteristic diameter of the container is greater than about 0.01. By virtue of unique geometry, the containers of the invention exhibit improved rigidity and/or rim stiffness yet have favorable runnability in pressware manufacturing systems characteristic of plates of lower strength.

A system and method for communicating between a local computing resource and a remote user interface includes a segmented switch for sending Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIE) packets. The segmented switch includes a local switch segment that is associated with the local computing resource and a remote switch segment associated with the remote user interface. The local switch segment and the remote switch segment are connected by a link and allow for the transmission of information between the local computing resource and the remote user interface using PCIE packets to transmit keyboard, video and mouse information between the local computing resource and the remote user interface.

There is described a method and system for in-flight start of an engine. The method comprises rotating a propeller; generating electrical power at an electric generator embedded inside a propeller hub from rotation of the propeller; transmitting the electrical power from the electric generator to an engine starter mounted on a core of the engine via an electric power link; and driving the engine with the engine starter to a sufficient speed while providing fuel to a combustor to light the engine to achieve self-sustaining operation of the engine.
