Trailer backing up device and method

The present invention helps a driver steer a vehicle while backing up a trailer. A trailer being pushed wants to turn around and be pulled (i.e., to jackknife). To compensate for this instability, the driver must skillfully control his steering to cause the trailer to alternately move to be pulled from the opposite side thereby repeatedly crossing the centerline of the pushing vehicle. The moment when the trailer crosses this centerline is the moment of greatest instability and the position in which the driver would most desire to have the trailer travel. A pointer indicates in what direction the trailer is presently being directed; to backup the trailer, the driver turns the vehicle's wheel such that the pointer is kept pointing in the direction of the intended trailer destination. The present invention can be adapted to most vehicle and trailer combinations with minimal cost and complexity.

The present invention relates to a method for the real-time identification of seizures in an Electroencephalogram (EEG) signal. The method provides for patient-independent seizure identification by use of a multi-patient trained generic Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier. The SVM classifier is operates on a large feature vector combining features from a wide variety of signal processing and analysis techniques. The method operates sufficiently accurately to be suitable for use in a clinical environment. The method may also be combined with additional classifiers, such a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) classifier, for improved robustness, and one or more dynamic classifiers such as an SVM using sequential kernels for improved temporal analysis of the EEG signal.

Methods for road safety enhancement using mobile communication device

Methods for road safety enhancement use mobile communication device (MCD) onboard vehicle to share traveling data through inter-vehicle communication broadcasting, perform road hazard warning, enhance road navigation, and provide autonomous road assistance. The methods have a variety of vehicle status data, such as moving data, steering data, or indicator data, obtained through GPS or image capturing and recognition of instrument cluster of vehicle. The image capturing and recognition allows to get speed data from indication of speedometer, indication of left or right turn signal, steering action data corresponding to steering wheel rotation, and light-on indication of system status indicators. To facilitate that, the MCD may be placed in front of steering wheel, and, if applicable, also in coupling with movement of steering wheel. The MCD may perform relative positioning map-matching lane correlation and GPS-update-interval speed positioning to improve data quality regarding vehicle moving status.

Narrowband detector

A narrowband signal detector has an adaptable filter and controller for controlling the centre frequency and the bandwidth of the filter, to track the narrowband signal. Better control of the filter can be achieved by basing the filter control on a comparison of output and input to the filter. The comparison gives a more direct measure of how well the filter is tracking the narrowband signal. In the case of a notch filter, if there is poor tracking. The control should be biased rapidly towards improved tracking speed. Otherwise, for good tracking, the control should be biased towards accuracy of tracking. This enables speed and accuracy of detection requirements to be met with less computational load. Applications include telecommunications signalling or data tone detection. Multiple narrowband signals can be detected by a cascade of filters.

Method for determining the rotational position of the drive shaft of a direct current motor

A method for determining the position of an element driven along a travel segment by a shaft of a motor includes counting current ripples detected in an armature current signal of the motor as the motor shaft rotates to drive the element. A first time interval between when the motor is turned on with power being supplied to the motor and when the first current ripple is detected is determined. A second time interval between when the last current ripple is detected after the motor has been turned off with the power supplied to the motor being interrupted and when the motor shaft stops rotating is determined. First and second current ripple components corresponding to the first and time intervals, respectively, are estimated. The position of the element along the travel segment is determined based on the counted current ripples and the estimated first and second current ripple components.

A method of creating a systems requirement document by using a numerical modeling tool, such as a spreadsheet, to prototype an operational process in terms of a numerical picture of the goals, metrics, performance targets and constraints used by managers of the operational process. A process design blueprint is defined for the operational process, including data sources and data sinks. A representative model of the process design blueprint is created. If the model is not detailed enough for implementation by IT professionals, model objects and data flows are added to the blueprint and the representative model is modified to be consistent with the blueprint. Surrogate calculations may be made for computational task objects or, alternatively, separate process design blueprints may be generated for such computational task objects. This cycle is repeated until the model is detailed enough for implementation.

Combination pressure sensor with capactive and thermal elements

A pressure sensor has a baseplate and a support plate with a membrane. Layers on the membrane and the support plate are connected to a circuit for capacitively measuring pressure to generate a first pressure signal. A thermal conductivity measuring element that generates a second pressure signal has a heating element connected to the baseplate adjacent the support plate at a location opposite from the membrane for protecting the membrane from thermal effects. The method uses the sensor apparatus to generate an output signal representing a measured result when the measured result is above a transition value, on the basis of the first pressure signal and, when the pressure falls below a threshold value, any offset of the first pressure signal is compensated in such a way that determination of the output signal on the basis of the first pressure signal leads to the same result as determination of the output signal on the basis of the second pressure signal.
