Ozone system for multi-chamber tools

An improved system and method for controlling ozone concentration in connection with a multi-chamber tool. The system and method involve a first and a second concentration controller in combination with an ozone generator. The first concentration controller detects an EVENT (i.e., one of the chambers in the multi-chamber tool coming on-line or off-line) and in response provides a power instruction to the ozone generator in accordance with a predictive control algorithm. The first concentration controller has a fast (i.e, about 1 second) response time. The second concentration controller is masked from the ozone generator during the EVENT, but otherwise controls the generator after an interval of time has lapsed after the EVENT. The second concentration controller has a slower response time than the first concentration controller, however the second concentration controller provides the system with long-term stability and can be used to provide updated data to the predictive control algorithm.

Method and apparatus for controlling the flow resistance of a fluid on nanostructured or microstructured surfaces

A method and apparatus is disclosed wherein the flow resistance of a droplet disposed on a nanostructured or microstructured surface is controlled. A closed-cell feature is used in a way such that, when the pressure of at least a first fluid within one or more of the cells of said surface is decreased to or below a desired level, a droplet disposed on that surface is caused to at least partially penetrate the surface. In another illustrative embodiment, the pressure within one or more of the cells is increased to or above a desired level in a way such that the droplet of liquid is returned at least partially to its original, unpenetrated position. In yet another embodiment, a closed-cell structure feature pattern is used to prevent penetration of the nanostructured or microstructured surface, even when the pressure of the fluid disposed on the surface is relatively high.

Energy generation apparatus and method

A practical technique for inducing and controlling the fusion of nuclei within a solid lattice. A reactor includes a loading source to provide the light nuclei which are to be fused, a lattice which can absorb the light nuclei, a source of phonon energy, and a control mechanism to start and stop stimulation of phonon energy and / or the loading of reactants. The lattice transmits phonon energy sufficient to affect electron-nucleus collapse. By controlling the stimulation of phonon energy and controlling the loading of light nuclei into the lattice, energy released by the fusion reactions is allowed to dissipate before it builds to the point that it causes destruction of the reaction lattice.

Universal light-switchable gene promoter system

An artificial promoter system that can be fused upstream of any desired gene enabling reversible induction or repression of the expression of the gene at will in any suitable host cell or organisms by light is described. The design of the system is such that a molecule of the plant photoreceptor phytochrome is targeted to the specific DNA binding site in the promoter by a protein domain that is fused to the phytochrome and that specifically recognizes this binding site. This bound phytochrome, upon activation by light, recruits a second fusion protein consisting of a protein that binds to phytochrome only upon light activation and a transcriptional activation domain that activates expression of the gene downstream of the promoter.

Method for improving engine starting

A method for improving exhaust after treatment initial warm up during engine starting is presented. In one example, the method adjusts an engine air flow amount to a level where a desired substantially constant heat flux is provided by the engine to an exhaust after treatment device. The method may reduce fuel consumption and a need for a vacuum pump to provide vacuum to vacuum consumers of a vehicle during exhaust after treatment heating.

Hierarchical continuous level of detail for three-dimentional meshes

InactiveUS20170091992A1Reduce visual artifactReduce artifacts3D modellingAlgorithmLevel of detail
Embodiments use hierarchical continuous level of detail (H-CLOD) trees with inherited splitting plane partitioning to reduce visual artifacts in renderings. For example, a three-dimensional mesh can be iteratively split, according to iteratively defined splitting planes, until sub-meshes are smaller than a predetermined bucket size. Each splitting can define a hierarchical level of a tree, so that the original mesh is a root node, each split sub-mesh is a child node, and the smallest meshes are leaf nodes. An H-CLOD tree can be generated by simplifying and combining each group of sibling node sub-meshes bottom-up into a simplified parent mesh accounting for inherited splitting planes, so that the tree has a most simplified mesh as its root node and a most un-simplified mesh formed by a combination of its leaf nodes. At render time, traversing the H-CLOD tree can produce a desired level of detail from the pre-computed nodes.

Control system for monitoring and adjusting combustion performance in a cordwood-fired heating appliance

A system including temperature measuring devices, a controller, and an actuator, maintains a desired gas temperature range in the secondary combustor by proportionally making adjustments to the primary air orifice or other primary air valve of a cordwood burning appliance. Heat output of the appliance is directly related to the temperature of the gases in the secondary combustor, and sufficient engagement of the second combustor during off-gassing of volatiles from the wood will control emissions from the appliance. The operator can select a desired room temperature via the thermostat and the controller will use different secondary gas temperature target ranges in order to meet the desired room temperature as commanded by the thermostat throughout the burn event. The controller also controls the start-up phase of combustion and charcoal phase of combustion.
