Method and apparatus for allocating bandwidth in a wireless communication system

A method and apparatus for requesting and allocating bandwidth in a broadband wireless communication system. The inventive method and apparatus includes a combination of techniques that allow a plurality of CPEs to communicate their bandwidth request messages to respective base stations. One technique includes a “polling” method whereby a base station polls CPEs individually or in groups and allocates bandwidth specifically for the purpose of allowing the CPEs to respond with bandwidth requests. The polling of the CPEs by the base station may be in response to a CPE setting a “poll-me bit” or, alternatively, it may be periodic. Another technique comprises “piggybacking” bandwidth requests on bandwidth already allocated to a CPE. In accordance with this technique, currently active CPEs request bandwidth using previously unused portions of uplink bandwidth that is already allocated to the CPE. The CPE is responsible for distributing the allocated uplink bandwidth in a manner that accommodates the services provided by the CPE. By using a combination of bandwidth allocation techniques, the present invention advantageously makes use of the efficiency benefits associated with each technique.

Reactor system for reducing NOx emissions from boilers

A zeolite based SCR catalyst for NOx reduction using a reducing agent for treating exhaust streams from industrial and commercial boilers is provided. The reactor system has a zeolite based catalyst arranged in catalyst cassettes in a modular fashion where the reactor containing the zeolite based SCR catalyst cassettes is placed in a perpendicular direction to the exhaust exiting the industrial and / or commercial boiler. The catalyst selectively reduces nitrogen oxides to nitrogen with a reducing agent at low to medium temperatures. The reactor results in high NOx conversions and very low ammonia slip and is active for a wide range of boiler firing conditions. Boilers with low NOx and / or ultra low NOx burners can be replaced with a standard conventional burner for overall emissions reduction performance, efficiency improvements and energy savings. Boilers with low NOx and ultra low NOx burners can also be fitted with this zeolite based SCR catalyst reactor for additional NOx reductions and energy savings.

Surface mount package

Space-efficient packaging of microelectronic devices permits greater functionality per unit PC board surface area. In certain embodiments, packages having leads of a reverse gull wing shape reduce peripheral footprint area occupied by the leads, thereby permitting maximum space in the package footprint to be allocated to the package body and to the enclosed die. Embodiments of packages in accordance with the present invention may also reduce the package vertical profile by featuring recesses for receiving lead feet ends, thereby reducing clearance between the package bottom and the PC board. Providing a linear lead foot underlying the package and slightly inclined relative to the PC board further reduces vertical package profile by eliminating additional clearance associated with radiuses of curvature of J-shaped leads.

Gestures to encapsulate intent

A method is provided for enabling gameplay with a character in a game environment on a mobile device. In the game environment, a player can play a game via a character. When there is an expectation of action from the character in the game, a touch gesture input is received on the mobile device. The fidelity of the touch gesture input is calculated with reference to an optimal gesture in a reference gesture table. If the fidelity is within a predefined range associated with the optimal gesture, the touch gesture input is matched to the optimal gesture and an associated game script is called wherein the character would be shown as having successfully completed the expectation.

Charged water fumigation for combustion systems

Internal combustion engines generally suffer from inadequate time to completely combust all the fuel in a given cycle. Therefore, any method for increasing the rate and completion of combustion is welcomed. A large excess of electrons are admitted to the combustion zone attached to a fine water droplet spray. The charged spray enters through the air intake valves at the beginning of the intake stroke. The charged spray becomes well mixed with the charge of air prior to fuel injection and the well mixed electrons provide for catalytic action. Electron catalyzed combustion reactions occur faster and at lower temperatures. The lower temperature reduces NOx and the faster burning increases efficiency and reduces soot formation. The catalytic benefits of charged water fumigation is only observed once the electron concentration exceeds a threshold value.

System and method for testing a group of related products

A system and method for testing a group of related products or devices. According to one embodiment, the user may first manually create a base test sequence, and child test sequences may then be created based on the base test sequence. The user may include various steps in the base test sequence, such that the base test sequence includes steps that need to be common to most or all of the child test sequences. The user may also configure parameters or properties for each step in the base test sequence, such that the parameter configuration is what is required for most or all of the child test sequences. Initial child test sequences may then be automatically created as instances of the base test sequence. The user may then manually edit the instances of the base test sequence to produce the desired child test sequences, such that each child test sequence is configured to appropriately test a particular product to which the child test sequence corresponds. For example, the user may change a parameter configuration for one or more steps in the child test sequence, may add a step to or remove a step from the child test sequence, etc. In the preferred embodiment, the child test sequences may also be automatically changed or updated in various ways. For example, the user may manually add a new step to the base test sequence, and in response the new step may be automatically added to each child test sequence. As another example, the user may manually change the parameter configuration for a step in the base test sequence, and in response the parameter configuration change may be automatically propagated to each child test sequence.
