A method and apparatus for requesting and allocating bandwidth in a broadband wireless communication system. The inventive method and apparatus includes a combination of techniques that allow a plurality of CPEs to communicate their bandwidth request messages to respective base stations. One technique includes a “polling” method whereby a base station polls CPEs individually or in groups and allocates bandwidth specifically for the purpose of allowing the CPEs to respond with bandwidth requests. The polling of the CPEs by the base station may be in response to a CPE setting a “poll-me bit” or, alternatively, it may be periodic. Another technique comprises “piggybacking” bandwidth requests on bandwidth already allocated to a CPE. In accordance with this technique, currently active CPEs request bandwidth using previously unused portions of uplink bandwidth that is already allocated to the CPE. The CPE is responsible for distributing the allocated uplink bandwidth in a manner that accommodates the services provided by the CPE. By using a combination of bandwidth allocation techniques, the present invention advantageously makes use of the efficiency benefits associated with each technique.

Internal combustion engines generally suffer from inadequate time to completely combust all the fuel in a given cycle. Therefore, any method for increasing the rate and completion of combustion is welcomed. A large excess of electrons are admitted to the combustion zone attached to a fine water droplet spray. The charged spray enters through the air intake valves at the beginning of the intake stroke. The charged spray becomes well mixed with the charge of air prior to fuel injection and the well mixed electrons provide for catalytic action. Electron catalyzed combustion reactions occur faster and at lower temperatures. The lower temperature reduces NOx and the faster burning increases efficiency and reduces soot formation. The catalytic benefits of charged water fumigation is only observed once the electron concentration exceeds a threshold value.

A zeolite based SCR catalyst for NOx reduction using a reducing agent for treating exhaust streams from industrial and commercial boilers is provided. The reactor system has a zeolite based catalyst arranged in catalyst cassettes in a modular fashion where the reactor containing the zeolite based SCR catalyst cassettes is placed in a perpendicular direction to the exhaust exiting the industrial and/or commercial boiler. The catalyst selectively reduces nitrogen oxides to nitrogen with a reducing agent at low to medium temperatures. An apparatus for controlling the transfer of communication traffic to an interface having a group of links comprises a detector for detecting the sizes of data units to be transferred to the interface, and a controller for causing data units to be transferred to the interface, wherein the controller is operative to select the link to which to transfer a data unit based on the detected size. The group of links includes a reference link that is used as an overflow to receive data units when other member links are full, and when the reference link is not used in its overflow capacity, the controller is operative to bias selection of the links to which to transfer data units towards the other links relative to the reference link.
