High temperature/ultra-high pressure sterilization of foods

Method for sterilizing foods using both ultra-high pressures and high temperatures. The instantaneous temperature change that occurs when pressure is applied combines a high-temperature short-time process with ultra-high pressure to deliver a fast and therefore gentle thermal process to a pre-packaged product. The process involves heating a food to a pre-pressurized temperature, subjecting the food to ultra-high pressure, which instantaneously raises the temperature of the food, and then releasing the pressure so that the temperature returns to the original pre-pressurized temperature. The method leverages the adiabatic temperature rise which occurs when the food is hydrostatically pressurized, coupled with the lethality of the pressure, to achieve appropriate sterilization conditions.

Refrigerant cycle system

In a refrigerant cycle system, a compression mechanism of an electric compressor sucks and compresses refrigerant, and an electric motor that drives the compression mechanism is cooled by the refrigerant. A variable throttle mechanism decompresses the refrigerant discharged from the electric compressor. A motor temperature detector detects a temperature of the electric motor. A motor protection determiner determines whether the temperature of the electric motor detected by the motor temperature detector is equal to or higher than a criterion value. A motor protection controller controls the variable throttle mechanism so that an opening degree of the variable throttle mechanism does not decrease when the motor protection determiner determines that the temperature of the electric motor is equal to or higher than the criterion value.

Helmet and body armor actuated ventilation and heat pipes

The lack of air flow under body armor, helmets, and thick garments can lead to excessive moisture build up and discomfort on the wearers body due to lack of heat removal and effective evaporation of sweat. By incorporating wick covered heat pipes or thermal conductors with air flow channels in the apparel contact area between the garments, helmets, and body armor the effectiveness air flow cooling and evaporation of sweat can be restored. Humidity or temperature auto-actuated bi-material valves are used to control this air-moisture-heat flow to achieve a controlled comfortable humidity-temperature environment and avoid excessive cooling. Supplementary air pumps, filters, dehydrators, fluid pumps, heating fluids, and cooling fluids may be incorporated to enhance the effectiveness. Biocides and hydrophilic materials are also incorporated on the wick coverings to avoid biological growth and maintain performance to achieve a healthy environment for the wearer.

Method for restricting excessive temperature rise of filter in internal combustion engine

A method for restricting an excessive temperature rise in an internal combustion engine according to the present invention can provide a technology that enable to restrict an excessive temperature rise of a filter more reliably in an internal combustion engine having the filter provided in the exhaust passage for collecting particulate matter in the exhaust gas. In that method, when the running state of the internal combustion engine becomes idle running during the filter regeneration process, the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas flowing into the filter is reduced. After that, when the running state of the internal combustion engine shifts from the idle running to a running state with an engine load higher than in the idle running, the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas flowing into the filter is gradually increased.

Non-contact temperature-measuring device and the method thereof

This invention provides a non-contact temperature-measuring device including a distance sensor unit, an alarm unit, a temperature sensor unit, a microprocessor unit and a display unit. The distance sensor unit measures the distance between the device and a target. The alarm unit gives an alarm when the distance sensor unit measures a predetermined distance value. The temperature sensor unit measures a temperature of the target after the alarm unit gives the alarm. The microprocessor unit stores data of the predetermined distance value and the temperature value measured by the temperature sensor unit; the microprocessor unit also processes a distance signal emitted by the distance sensor unit and a temperature signal emitted by the temperature sensor unit. When the target's distance value equals the predetermined distance value, the microprocessor unit will further send a command for the alarm unit to give an alarm. The display unit of the device displays the temperature value that is measured by the temperature sensor unit and processed by the microprocessor unit subsequently.

Cyclic radio frequency stimulation

Production of heavy oil and bitumen from a reservoir is enhanced by cyclic radio frequency (RF) radiation of the well. The invention utilizes RF radiation to introduce energy to the hydrocarbon reservoir in cycles in order to heat the reservoir directly, yet conserves energy over the prior art processes that more or less continuously apply RF or microwave energy. The advantage of cyclic RF is it uses less electricity, and thus lowers operating costs. This is achieved by the soak cycle that allows heat to conduct into the formation and assists the heat penetration that is directly radiated into the formation by the antenna. The invention can also be advantageously combined with cyclic steam stimulation.

Power transmission control apparatus for vehicle

First and second clutches correspond to systems which include “first gear” and “second gear,” respectively. When the temperature of the first clutch at the time of start of the vehicle is lower than a first temperature, only the first clutch is used as a start clutch for driving the vehicle. When the temperature of the first clutch is not lower than the first temperature but is lower than a second temperature, both the first and second clutches are used as the start clutch. When the temperature of the first clutch is equal to or higher than the second temperature, only the second clutch is used as the start clutch. Thus, the higher the temperature of the first clutch, the smaller the load acting on the first clutch. When the temperature of the second clutch is high, engine torque is reduced, and a warning is issued.

Tire pressure sensor system with improved sensitivity and power saving

A battery powered tire pressure sensor system with a high sensitivity stretch sensor assembly having a variable resistance longitudinal displacement characteristic. The stretch sensor assembly has at least two juxtaposed stretch sensors, each with a first layer bearing the variable resistance element and a second support layer. The sensor assembly is mounted on or in the side wall of a pneumatic tire so that the assembly is displaced by the tire side wall and the resistance is a function of internal tire pressure. The assembly is coupled to a processor which samples the resistance of the stretch sensor assembly periodically. When the processor determines that the pressure is outside a safe range, an r.f. generator is activated by the processor to generate an unsafe tire pressure signal. This signal is converted by a receiver to a warning for the driver. A power saving unit controls application of electrical power to the system as a function of tire speed to prolong battery life.

Custard caramel sauce

InactiveUS20050058762A1Subjected to attenuationMore controlled final temperatureFood preparationChemistryEnzyme
A custard caramel sauce formed of a pasteurized oil and water emulsion in which the oil can include butter and in which the water includes sugar dissolved in the water, and in which an enzyme-modified yolk (EMY) is present as an emulsifier. The present invention provides caramel and caramel sauces having an egg or custard-type flavor. Egg yolk is used as an emulsifier, at least partially in place of the cream conventional used to make caramels. The use of egg yolk is made possible by using enzyme-modified yolk in place of unprocessed egg yolk. As the mixture is heated, the proteins are able to thicken the sauce, but the EMY is able to keep the sauce from breaking into fat / oil and aqueous phases. The enzyme-modified yolk also enables providing a liquid custard caramel sauce that can be sold in a cooled refrigerated package and subsequently reheated without the unappealing coagulation of the egg yolk proteins and subsequent phase separation in the sauce after heating. The custard caramel sauce can be made by adding melted butter to enzyme-modified egg yolk, sugar, and water to form an emulsion. The emulsion can be homogenized and then heated to form a gel. The gel can be liquefied through high shear or cooling to form the custard caramel sauce.
