Aspects of the invention relate to a cooling system for a blade platform that can provide cooling to and reduce stress on the platform. Aspects of the invention relate to including one or more channels in the blade platform such that the channels extend from the trailing edge face of the platform toward, but terminate prior to, the leading edge face of the platform. The channels can be generally oval or oblong in conformation. Extending between the hollow shank and the channels can be a plurality of cooling holes. During engine operation, coolant is supplied to the shank of the blade assembly. Because the pressure at the shank is greater than the pressure at the trailing edge of the platform, coolant flow is induced through the cooling holes and into the channels. After flowing through the channels, the coolant can be dumped at the trailing edge.

The invention discloses a foldable cable bar structural unit based on hexagonal geometry. The structural unit is composed of six hinging nodes, one pivoting node, three stay cables and six pressure bars. The six hinging nodes are respectively located at the six vertexes of a two-dimensional hexagonal geometry, and the pivoting node is located at the central point of the hexagonal geometry. The four first-type pressure bars are symmetrically arranged on the two sides of the hexagon, and coincide with the four edges of the hexagon. The other two second-type pressure bars are located inside the hexagon, and form a scissor-like hinge through the pivoting node. The three stay cables are located inside the hexagon, and the six hinging nodes are connected in pairs by the three stay cables. When all the stay cables are pre-tensioned, pre-pressure exists in all the pressure bars, and the structural unit is a self-balancing cable bar system. When the first-type stay cable or the third-type stay cable is loosened, the structural unit can be folded to form a compact bundle shape. For example, it may be desirable to utilize such a structure to block an attic fan, or other roof penetration, during certain seasons of the year. Such an embodiment may also include a releasable attachment configured for releasably attaching the installation periphery to a surface inclined from the horizontal.

A fuel injector comprising a nozzle having a nozzle needle which is moveable with respect to a first needle seat to control fuel delivery through a nozzle outlet. The injector includes a nozzle control valve for controlling fuel flow into a control chamber through a first passage to pressurise the control chamber, and for controlling fuel flow out of said control chamber through said first passage to depressurise the control chamber. Movement of the nozzle needle is controlled by fuel pressure within the control chamber, such that pressurising the control chamber causes the nozzle needle to be urged against the first needle seat to close the nozzle outlet, and depressurising the control chamber causes the nozzle needle to lift from the first needle seat to open the nozzle outlet. The nozzle needle defines, at least in part, a restricted passage through which fuel can flow into the control chamber as the control chamber depressurises. The fuel flow into the control chamber through the restricted passage serves to reduce the rate at which the control chamber depressurises, thereby reducing the rate at which the nozzle needle lifts from the first needle seat to open the nozzle outlet.
