Adaptive shading in a graphics processing pipeline

One embodiment of the present invention includes a parallel processing unit (PPU) that performs pixel shading at variable granularities. For effects that vary at a low frequency across a pixel block, a coarse shading unit performs the associated shading operations on a subset of the pixels in the pixel block. By contrast, for effects that vary at a high frequency across the pixel block, fine shading units perform the associated shading operations on each pixel in the pixel block. Because the PPU implements coarse shading units and fine shading units, the PPU may tune the shading rate per-effect based on the frequency of variation across each pixel group. By contrast, conventional PPUs typically compute all effects per-pixel, performing redundant shading operations for low frequency effects. Consequently, to produce similar image quality, the PPU consumes less power and increases the rendering frame rate compared to a conventional PPU.

Image reproducing method, image reproducing apparatus and image reproducing program

A reference image and a target image for image inspection are displayed side by side in a monitor. The reference image is taken in approximately identical shooting condition to the target image for the image inspection, and corrected with a reference correction parameter. The reference correction parameter and the reference image are stored in a memory. The target image for the image inspection is corrected with the reference correction parameter. The operator determines image quality while comparing the reference image to the target image for the image inspection. When the image quality is unsatisfactory, the target image for the image inspection is corrected. When the correction parameter is changed during the image correction, the changed correction parameter is used for correcting the next image instead of the reference correction parameter.

Spectral encoder

A spectral encoder for producing spectrally selected images of a radiation field containing multiple spectral components. An imaging spectrograph defines a first optical path that produces from the input radiation field a spectrally dispersed image comprising multiple spectral components displaced along a dispersion direction. Spectral pass bands are encoded on the dispersed image by a programmable spatial light modulator using one or more spatial masks. The imaging spectrograph further defines a second optical path that reverses the spectral dispersion of the first path and produces a spectrally-encoded polychromatic output image containing only those spectral components encoded by the spatial mask. The first and second optical paths share a common dispersing element. A detector records at least one spatial region of the spectrally encoded output image.

Methods and arrangements in a wireless communication system

InactiveUS20110122819A1Degraded performance and loss of performanceAllow useError preventionWireless commuication servicesCoding blockCommunications system
The present invention relates to methods and arrangements in a wireless communication system that enable the use of multi-codeword transmission and ACK / NACK compression with low performance loss. It also enables the use of advanced receivers of reasonable complexity. This is achieved by a solution based on the even distribution of the symbols of separately coded blocks of information bits over the available physical resources before transmission. Each physical resource will thus carry a mixture of symbols from all blocks of information bits, which results in a more similar channel quality for the blocks of information bits. A compressed ACK / NACK message corresponding to the blocks of information bits will thus be more accurate and the performance loss due to the ACK / NACK compression can be reduced.
