Adaptive programming method and apparatus for flash memory analog storage

Adaptive programming method and apparatus for flash memory analog storage. The present invention method is to adjust the voltage of the programming pulse each time based on the result of the previous pulse. The expected change in the programmed value is compared to the measured change, and the difference used to improve the model of that cell after each programming pulse. The algorithm is "adaptive" because the voltage of each pulse is adapted to whatever the cell needs. If the cell is programming too slowly, the voltage is increased dramatically to make it faster. Conversely if the results show that a particular cell is programming too fast, the next voltage pulse is increased by only a small amount (or even decreased if necessary). Because the response of the cell is non-linear, a special analog circuit is used to calculate the optimum voltage for each pulse. As one alternative, a digital calculation may also be used to program the cells. Because of the programming speed of the exemplary method, a voice signal may be sampled and stored in flash memory one cell at a time. Variable programming parameters other than voltage may be used if desired.

Method and apparatus for monitoring the flow of items through a store or warehouse

An item velocity monitoring system is provided which interfaces with a consumer retail store that has several cash registers that are tied into a “point of sale” store controller. The item velocity monitoring system is capable of detecting when sales (or other movement activities) of an item are occurring too quickly, or too slowly. The item velocity monitoring system is first “trained” in a learning mode of operations, during which item patterns and group patterns are evaluated and placed into a pattern database. The system then compares the observed item velocity to its model probability velocity, and if the observed item velocity deviates beyond the statistical model, a “velocity event” is generated, declaring one of the above selling “too quick” or “too slow” conditions. Once a velocity event is detected, an event handling routine displays the event, and can transmit the event information over a network (including the INTERNET) to a remote computer for additional analysis or record keeping. A “Loyalty Out-of-Stock System,” (LOSS) is incorporated in the above item velocity monitoring system which automatically detects when items for sale are out-of-stock (OOS), discovers the reasons for these “stock-outs,” and determines how customers react to these stock-outs. The LOSS operates on store data and models the expected item movement rate for each item under varying time-of-day, day-of-week, price, promotion, season, holiday, and market conditions; detects items that are moving abnormally slowly, thereby identifying items that may be improperly displayed; provides early warning that an item may go out-of-stock (OOS) by detecting items with abnormally high movement; detects and reports on items that are OOS at retail stores; summarizes OOS events for the store and retail chain management, and for suppliers, thereby identifying items that are over-stocked (too few OOS events), under-stocked (too many events), badly re-stocked (too long events); analyzes the OOS events to find patterns that explain why OOS's are occurring; and determines the impacts of these OOS events on store customers, thereby measuring losses to the retailer and supplier, and establishing the loyalty of consumers to the item, brand, and chain.

Eye gaze control of dynamic information presentation

A hands-free system uses eye gaze information from an eye gaze tracking device to continuously control the rate and direction of scrollable information presented on a display in a natural manner. Initially, images begin scrolling on the display at an initial rate. An eye tracking device is used to determine the area on the display that the user is gazing. If the gaze remains fixed near an anchor position, this indicates that the images are scrolling at a comfortable speed for the user to read the information. However, if the gaze begins to drift towards the side of the display where information is appearing, the scroll rate is increased since this indicates that the text is scrolling too slowly. Conversely, if the user's gaze is detected to move toward the side of the screen where information is disappearing, the scroll rate is decreased since this indicates that the user is falling behind. If the user's gaze gets too close to the side of the screen where information is disappearing the scroll direction may be reversed.

Image capture control for in vivo autonomous camera

Systems and methods are provided for motion detection and capture control of video data from a capsule camera system having an on-board storage. The capsule camera system moves through the GI tract under the action of peristalsis and records images of the intestinal walls. The capsule's movement is episodic and jerky. The capacity of the on-board storage is limited. In order to avoid unnecessary capture of images when the capsule camera moves very slowly or stalls, motion detection technique is utilized to help control image capture. Furthermore, an adaptive capture control is disclosed that automatically adjusts the threshold level of capture control to maintain proper image capture. The invented capture control also conserves precious battery power by eliminating capture of unnecessary images when the capsule camera moves too slowly or stalls. The present invention of image capture control and threshold update is also applicable to a capsule camera system having a wireless transmitter instead of an on-board storage.

Control Circuit for Fast Heating of a Positive-Temperature-Coefficient Heating Component

Traditional temperature-control products have the problem that the temperature of the working surface reaches the setting temperature too slowly when heating up or recovering from a temperature drop. A traditional temperature control circuit and temperature-settings selector components are modified to solve this problem. When heating begins, the modified circuit increases the initial setting temperature to be above the target setting temperature. The modified circuit then adjusts the setting temperature by measuring the heating power consumption. Once the working surface of the temperature control product reaches the initial setting temperature, the heating power consumption drops and the modified circuit reduces the temperature setting to the target setting temperature. The temperature control product can rapidly achieve the target temperature. A positive-temperature-coefficient heating component is used in the temperature control product.

Unmanned helicopter heading compensation route transition method

The present invention relates to an unmanned helicopter heading compensation route transition method. During the deflection process of an unmanned helicopter, a transverse path adopts lateral zero speed maintaining control; a heading path adopts yaw angle rate maintaining control; a yaw angle rate instruction is generated according to heading deviation containing a heading compensation quantity; the heading compensation quantity is determined according to real-time side deviation, a yaw angle rate upper limit corresponding to a current flight speed and a heading compensation quantity threshold, so that a yaw angle speed instruction and a roll angle instruction are obtained; and therefore, when the unmanned helicopter rotates too quickly when swerving due to disturbance, a heading compensation mechanism enables a compensation effect for reducing the speed of rotation; and when the helicopter rotates too slowly when swerving due to disturbance, the heading compensation mechanism continuously gives out heading compensation instructions, and the helicopter continues to complete swerving until the heading deviation and side deviation of the helicopter meet requirements. The heading of the helicopter is corrected through the side deviation, so that the unmanned helicopter can accurately track a target route and achieve precise tracking and control of the route.

Method for Increasing the Efficiency of Automated Telephony Systems

The problem of an automated telephony system having only a single way to measure a caller's difficulty in processing a transaction when using the system is solved by selecting from multiple thresholds for measuring the caller's difficulty. Having a choice of alternative thresholds to measure the caller's difficulty, referred to as inefficiency thresholds, allows for a more responsive approach to managing an automated telephony system. This choice of inefficiency thresholds overcomes multiple problems of systems only using one inefficiency threshold, such as: (1) transferring a call to a live agent too quickly, (2) transferring a call to a live agent too slowly, and (3) giving a caller a feeling that the automated telephony system is unresponsive to his or her needs. Having multiple inefficiency thresholds allows for a more dynamic response to a diverse audience of callers and serves different needs of a caller during various parts of a call.
