Fast Computational Camera Based On Two Arrays of Lenses

Method and apparatus for a fast (low F / number) computational camera that incorporates two arrays of lenses. The arrays include a lenslet array in front of a photosensor and an objective lens array of two or more lenses. Each lens in the objective lens array captures light from a subject. Each lenslet in the lenslet array captures light from each objective lens and separates the captured light to project microimages corresponding to the objective lenses on a region of the photosensor under the lenslet. Thus, a plurality of microimages are projected onto and captured by the photosensor. The captured microimages may be processed in accordance with the geometry of the objective lenses to align the microimages to generate a final image. One or more other algorithms may be applied to the image data in accordance with radiance information captured by the camera, such as automatic refocusing of an out-of-focus image.

Virtual interactive global exchange

A computer based virtual reality trading system for trading financial products such as commodities and stocks uses a server based system for generating a virtual trading floor to simulate an exchange. Traders use local PC's to direct their individual avatars interactively on the virtual trading floor, using hand and voice signals similar to a non-virtual exchange. This allows an exchange to be de-coupled from its physical geographic location as traders in diverse locations can interact on the virtual trading floor. The system enables accurate tracking for audit of the trade activity and simplified trade clearing, while retaining the dynamics of a non-virtual exchange.

Flow fluorometric method

InactiveUS6177277B1Signal to noise conditionLow powerChemiluminescene/bioluminescenceIndividual particle analysisFemtoliterFluorescence
This invention is related to a flow fluorometric device and method employing a two-photon excitation and / or confocal optical set-up. The optical set-up of this invention is optimal for counting small fluorescent biological particles. The active focal volume is diffraction-limited and consequently much smaller than the volume of the flow channel. The excitation and detection concept has been found very efficient for rejection of the background signal. An objective lens with large numerical aperture for focusing the laser and for collecting the fluorescence is used and this restricts the active volume of measurement to a diffraction-limited volume which approximately corresponds to a volume of femtoliter. This volume is significantly smaller than the detection volume of ordinary flow cytometry.

Sheet metal hole cutter

A sheet metal hole cutter has a cap plate defining a substantially circular peripheral groove and an annular shelf extending radially outwardly from the peripheral groove. An elongated band forming an approximately circular shape with opposite ends of the band contacting each other defines a base edge received within the circular peripheral groove in an abutting relationship with an inner edge of the groove. The band defines an axial depth of about ½ of an inch or less, and an outer diameter within the range of about 9 / 16 of an inch through about 6 inches. A weld region fixedly secures the base edge of the band to the cap plate. The annular shelf of the cap plate extends radially outwardly from the base edge of the band and defines a radial depth of at least approximately 1 / 16 of an inch in order to prevent over-feeding of the hole cutter through a work piece. A plurality of teeth are disposed along a cutting edge of the band, and each tooth defines a cutting surface extending between an outer edge and an inner edge of the tooth. Each cutting surface is oriented at an acute angle relative to the plane of the cap plate such that the outer edge of the respective tooth is spaced further away from the cap plate than the inner edge to thereby preferentially cut the work piece with the outer edge and create a substantially burr-free hole in the work piece.

An antenna is also provided in which an antenna element is mounted in such a way as to use the electromagnetic band-gap structure as a ground plane. This allows for a low-profile antenna to be made as the antenna element may be mounted close to the plane of surface elements in the structure.
