Method and apparatus for a fast (low F/number) computational camera that incorporates two arrays of lenses. The arrays include a lenslet array in front of a photosensor and an objective lens array of two or more lenses. Each lens in the objective lens array captures light from a subject. Each lenslet in the lenslet array captures light from each objective lens and separates the captured light to project microimages corresponding to the objective lenses on a region of the photosensor under the lenslet. Thus, a plurality of microimages are projected onto and captured by the photosensor. The captured microimages may be processed in accordance with the geometry of the objective lenses to align the microimages to generate a final image. One or more other algorithms may be applied to the image data in accordance with radiance information captured by the camera, such as automatic refocusing of an out-of-focus image.

A computer based virtual reality trading system for trading financial products such as commodities and stocks uses a server based system for generating a virtual trading floor to simulate an exchange. Traders use local PC's to direct their individual avatars interactively on the virtual trading floor, using hand and voice signals similar to a non-virtual exchange. This allows an exchange to be de-coupled from its physical geographic location as traders in diverse locations can interact on the virtual trading floor. This invention is related to a flow fluorometric device and method employing a two-photon excitation and/or confocal optical set-up. The optical set-up of this invention is optimal for counting small fluorescent biological particles. The active focal volume is diffraction-limited and consequently much smaller than the volume of the flow channel. The excitation and detection concept has been found very efficient for rejection of the background signal. An objective lens with large numerical aperture for focusing the laser and for collecting the fluorescence is used and this restricts the active volume of measurement to a diffraction-limited volume which approximately corresponds to a volume of femtoliter. This volume is significantly smaller than the detection volume of ordinary flow cytometry.

An improved method and apparatus for anchoring bone screws into bones of living beings includes a cannulated screw or bone anchor that is provided with at least one discharge opening in the distal end thereof. The head of the screw is configured to receive therein a material delivery probe in sealing relationship therewith. A fluid insertion device is connected to the material delivery probe and pumps a highly viscous material through the material delivery probe and into the interior of a bone in which the distal end of the screw has been inserted. The screw can be anchored proximally in bone to prevent backpressure from dislodging the delivery cannula and aides in achieving the high pressures necessary to cause the positive effects of materials previously not injectable in the bone or surrounding areas with the current methods and apparatia.

The present invention provides an active gas regenerative liquefier (AGRL) for efficiently cooling and liquefying a process stream based on the combination of several active gas regenerative refrigerator (AGRR) stages configured to sequentially cool and liquefy the process stream, e.g. natural gas or hydrogen. Novel tools and techniques that can be used to enhance the effectiveness of photogrammetric tools, such as bundle adjustment. One set of techniques can include a photo-observable backsight operation, in which a position of target point can be observed non-photographically, and this observed position can be used to constrain a pixel coordinate location of the same target point in a bundle adjustment operation. Using another technique, a photo-observable check shot operation, the observed position of another target point can be used to verify the validity of a bundle adjustment calculation. Such techniques can be used together or separately.

A latch assembly, comprising a control element having a pivot point and an actuator. The articulated well bore is horizontally offset from the substantially vertical well bore at the surface and intersects the substantially vertical well bore at a junction proximate to the subterranean zone. The method may include drilling the articulated well bore to intersect the slot cavity of the substantially vertical well bore and drilling a substantially horizontal drainage pattern from the slot cavity into the subterranean zone. The subterranean zone may comprise a coal seam.

A method and system utilizing backup disk drives in disk array systems. In one aspect, a disk array system includes one or more disk arrays, each including two or more disk drives. The system includes a spare disk drive, and a controller operative to assign the spare disk drive to a particular one of the disk arrays having a type different than the type of the spare disk drive in response to a failure of a disk drive of the particular disk array, such that the spare disk drive stores data from and operates in place of the failed disk drive.
