An embolectomy device includes a catheter and an elongated shaft positioned in and moveable within the catheter. The shaft has proximal and distal end portions, and a retrieval portion between the proximal and distal end portions. The retrieval portion has a plurality of legs having proximal and distal end portions. Portions of the legs are movable laterally outward from a long axis of the elongated shaft when the retrieval portion is at least partially moved out of the catheter. A retrieval net can be fixed to portions of the legs for engaging a clot or other occlusion within a body canal. An expander can be provided for moving portions of an occlusion toward canal walls to open a lumen. A method for removing clots and other occlusions from body canals is also disclosed.

Method and apparatus for disinfecting and / or sterilizing a root canal system by targeting the water content of disease and debris in the canals. The laser technique of employs a frequency of the wavelength emissions between about 930 to about 1065 nanometers with an optimum of 980 nm. This range of wavelengths targets the water content of tissue cells and pathogens as well as any residual organic debris in water within the root canal system after its preparation while being poorly absorbed by the surrounding dentin. The selection of the optimum wavelength produces significant effects generating and advancing treatment to the targeted aqueous environments. This is due to the rapid energy absorption by the water and the subsequent creation of gas bubbles, liberation of heat and subsequent propulsion of waves of heat and gas that impact along the canal walls and ramifications resulting in an enhanced bacterial kill and cleaning of the canal walls and ramifications. No dyes or other additives are necessary to enhance the effectiveness of the laser kill of bacteria, etc.

A composition and method for inducing bone growth and healing is provided. The composition is useful for promoting new bone synthesis, and to enhance the mechanical stability and longevity of orthopaedic implants. The composition has a flow phase and a congealed phase. The composition is applied, in the flow phase, within the reamed medullary canal of a long bone prior to insertion of an endoprosthesis. Following insertion of the endoprosthesis, the composition undergoes a phase change to the congealed phase, for example via cross-linking of the bone endogenous material in the composition, to provide a compliant barrier layer in the intra-medullary gap between the implanted endoprosthesis and the medullary canal wall. The resulting barrier layer has a dual mode porosity system, having a first order porosity to accommodate and promote convective diffusion of nutrient species into and through the barrier layer, and a second order porosity to accommodate osteoblastic migration therein without the need for osteoclastic resorption. Osteoblasts synthesize new bone using the barrier layer itself as raw material, essentially osteoconverting the barrier layer into synthesized new bone. In a preferred embodiment, the second order porosity is provided via a rapidly degrading polymer added to the composition, which has a half-life for degradation of 1-60 days.

The coil assembly receives and converts the electrical signal from the sound processing device into an electromagnetic signal, and transmits the electromagnetic signal into the middle ear of the user such that the electromagnet signals interact with the magnet assembly, thereby causing the magnet assembly and the ossicle to vibrate thereby creating the perception of sound in the user. The coil assembly is preferably implanted within the bony canal wall adjacent the outer ear canal of the user such that at least a portion of the coil assembly extends into the middle ear space of the user. The system preferably has a spacer connected to the magnet assembly and / or the coil assembly to substantially maintain a spatial separation between the magnet assembly and the coil assembly, while allowing for the magnet assembly to vibrate the ossicle in response to the electromagnetic signal transmitted by the coil assembly.

An endodontic post comprising a combined endodontic post and filling material tip in a single unit. To use the post unit, the device is placed in an oven or heater to heat and soften the thermoplastic material. The device will then be placed in a root canal that has been opened to a predetermined dimension by use of endodontic files, to seal the apical end. If necessary, the gutta percha can be compacted toward the apex, while it is still in the softened state, to ensure the apex is adequately sealed. The post is then cemented into place by lining the canal walls with a bonding agent and filling the interface between the post and the walls of the canal with a dual cure resin cement. This will result in a coronal seal of the canal via resin restorative material and an apical seal of the canal by means of gutta percha and sealant. The remaining portion of the post, extending supra-gingivally, will be used to build a core around it. Any excess will be cut off. One length of the device will be longer to accommodate the longer roots in anterior teeth. Another length will be shorter to accommodate smaller roots in the molar region.

Compared with a traditional bed surface shear stress calculation method, the method has the advantages that the side wall effect is comprehensively considered, and the canal resistance coefficient and the riverbed erosion and deposition change can be analyzed more accurately. The method is convenient and simple, can be suitable for canals with different width-depth ratios, unifies wall surface shear stress calculation ofthe wide and shallow canals and the narrow and deep canals, and is wider in application range.
