This up-and-down movement of the mounting plate causes the rolling shaft to move up and down, closely adhering to the bottom of the leg. As the rotating plate rotates, the bottom of the leg rubs against the rolling shaft, causing the rolling shaft to rotate. The friction between the rolling shaft and the bottom of the leg accelerates blood flow to the bottom of the leg, reducing the formation of pressure sores. It also helps patients rotate their ankles, preventing muscle atrophy and ankle stiffness caused by prolonged immobility of the legs and feet, thus facilitating subsequent rehabilitation and walking.

Composition for preventing or treating sarcopenia, containing brassica juncea extract as active ingredient

The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating muscle diseases, comprising an extract of Brassica juncea as an active ingredient. Inhibitory activity against myotube cell atrophy, a muscle anabolic factor expression promoting activity, and an effect of recovering from dexamethasone-induced enhancement of muscle cell catabolism and inhibition of anabolism of the Brassica juncea extract have been analyzed, and the effects of the Brassica juncea extract on recovery of reduced muscle tissue size, weight and muscle fiber size, biostability, a serum LDH level recovery effect, and an effect of reducing CK and creatinine levels in animal models have been analyzed, and thus it has been identified that the Brassica juncea extract can be used for preventing or treating sarcopenia or muscle atrophy.

Short expansion mutations in PABPN1 cause adult-onset, autosomal dominant oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy (OPMD). The molecular hallmark of OPMD is the presence of insoluble nuclear aggregates of the expanded (exp)PABPN1. The aggregation of PABPN1 results in reduced levels of functional PABPN1. In OPMD, PABPN1 levels are under a critical threshold which leads to muscle weakness. Interestingly, reduced levels of PABPN1 are also found in ageing muscles, where these reduced levels lead to muscle atrophy and has also been found to be associated with other adult-onset pathologies affecting tissues other than skeletal muscles, such as cancers, including bladder cancer, and heart diseases.
