Device for improving the accuracy of manual operations

A hand held robotic system that remains stiff so long as it is operating within allowed limits, but which become actively controlled once the operator exceeds those limits. The system thus corrects deviations by more than a predetermined amount of the operator's hand motions, so that the tool remains in the allowed region even when the operator's hand deviates from the planned trajectory. The pose and path of the robotic operating head is ascertained by means of a navigation or tracking system, or by means of a proximity device to measure the closeness of the operating head to a damage sensitive feature. As the tool deviates from its predetermined path or pose, or comes too close to the hazardous area, the robot control acts to move the tool back to its predetermined pose or path, or away from the hazardous region, independently of user's hand movement.

Meethod, system and computer readable medium for copy back

Systems, computer readable media and methods for updating a flash memory device involve procedures for transferring, from a flash memory device to an external controller, only a portion of a data entity; and determining, by the external controller, based upon the portion of the data entity, whether to complete a copy back operation of the data entity or to correct errors of the data entity. If it is determined to correct errors of the data entity, then the procedure includes (a) completing a transfer of the data entity to the external controller; (b) error correcting the data entity to provide an amended data entity; and (c) writing the amended data entity to the flash memory device. If, however, it is determined to complete the copy back operation then the procedures includes completing the copy back operation of the data entity by transferring the data entity within the flash memory device.

Variable focal length lens comprising micromirrors with one degrees of freedom rotation and one degree of freedom translation

ActiveUS6934073B1Improve reflectivityIncrease the effective reflection areaNon-linear opticsOptical elementsCamera lensDegrees of freedom
A micromirror array lens consists of many micromirrors with one degree of freedom rotation and one degree of freedom translation and actuating components. As a reflective variable focal length lens, the array of micromirrors makes all lights scattered from one point of an object have the same periodic phase and converge at one point of image plane. As operational methods for the lens, the actuating components control the positions of micromirrors electrostatically and / or electromagnetically. The optical efficiency of the micromirror array lens is increased by locating a mechanical structure upholding micromirrors and the actuating components under micromirrors. The known semiconductor microelectronics technologies can remove the loss in effective reflective area due to electrode pads and wires. The lens can correct aberration by controlling each micromirror independently. Independent control of each micromirror is possible by known semiconductor microelectronics technologies.

Three-dimensional imaging system

A new three-dimensional imaging system has been needed to overcome the problems of the prior arts using conventional variable focal length lenses, which have slow response time, small focal length variation, and low focusing efficiency, and require a complex mechanism to control it. The three-dimensional imaging system of the present invention uses the variable focal length micromirror array lens. Since the micromirror array lens has many advantages such as very fast response time, large focal length variation, high optical focusing efficiency, large size aperture, low cost, simple mechanism, and so on, the three-dimensional imaging system can get a real-time three-dimensional image with large depth range and high depth resolution.

Active Tracking for Free-Space Optical Communication Systems

Systems and methods enabling nodes of a free-space optical communication system to maintain pointing alignment of their transmitted optical beams. A first node scans its optical antenna through a path centered on a target direction. The second node captures signal strength measurements during the scan, and sends those measurements to the first node. The first node separately measures signal strength of the optical signal being received from the second node. The two sources of information (locally measured and remotely measured) are used to compute angular errors. The first node uses the angular errors to adjust the target direction of its optical antenna. The second node may employ the same method (with roles reversed) to adjust its target direction. By cycling back and forth between to the two nodes, the target directions of the two nodes maintain alignment in spite of movements of the structures on which they are mounted.

Air-fuel ratio controller for internal-combustion engine

An output signal from a downstream-side exhaust gas sensor is fed back into a fuel injection rate so that the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gases flowing out from a catalyst may match a reference value. In this sub-feedback control process, the integral value of the deviation between the output signal of the downstream-side exhaust gas sensor and a reference value is calculated, and the resulting integral-data signal is smoothed. A learning value for compensating for the permanent error included in an air-fuel ratio signal from an A / F sensor is learnt from the integral-data signal generated by the above smoothing operation.
