System and method for display input selection

Input sources to a display, such as a television, are depicted with a first indicator if active, such as active with a signal having visual information, and are depicted with a second indicator if inactive, such as lacking an active signal. A selection module allows a user of the display to select an active source but precludes selection of an inactive source. For instance, a user is allowed to select highlighted input sources that are active but not allowed to select grayed out input sources that are inactive. An override allows the user to present all input sources with the first indicator, whether or not the input sources are active.

Reversing rotatory shaker movement

A shaker movement permits an arbitrary path of motion in a shaker's shaking action. The shaker movement comprises independent control over the "X" and "Y" directions of the shaking actions by a pair of track assemblies, each track assembly comprising a pair of fixed rods and a pair of sliding rods that are interconnected with each other in a rectangular, grid-like pattern. Motion in both directions can be driven by a single motor utilizing independent pulley-and-belt systems or by two synchronized motors which are connected to a sliding rod of each track assembly. By altering the relative amplitude, phase angle, and frequency between the "X" and "Y" directions, the shaking action can follow a desired path. The shaker path can be varied from the traditional circular orbital motion or linear motion, to a new group of shaking patterns in which the direction of the shaking movement can reverse. The new patterns of shaker movement cause the liquid being shaken to be more thoroughly mixed, with less power input, and at a lower angular frequency than is practical with traditional paths of motion. This results in higher rates of gas transfer to and from the liquid, resulting in greater growth of a bacterial culture, and for higher rates of mass transfer at equivalent levels of energy input.

Hydraulic gravity ram pump

A piston type pumping apparatus comprises a vertically oriented cylinder having a top and a bottom with a first passageway for liquid in the cylinder adjacent to the top thereof. There is a second passageway for liquid in the cylinder adjacent to the bottom thereof A piston is reciprocatingly mounted within the cylinder. A hollow piston rod is connected to the piston and extends slidably and sealingly through the bottom of the cylinder. There is a reload chamber below the cylinder, the piston rod extending slidably and sealingly into the reload chamber and having a third passageway for liquid communicating with the reload chamber. The piston rod has a smaller cross-sectional area within the reload chamber than the piston, whereby liquid in the cylinder acting downwardly on the piston exerts a greater force on the piston than liquid in the reload chamber acting against the piston rod. There is a first one-way valve located in the third passageway which permits liquid to flow from the reload chamber into the piston rod and prevents liquid from flowing from the piston rod into the reload chamber. A fourth passageway for liquid extends from the reload chamber to a source of liquid to be pumped. A second one-way valve in the fourth passageway permits liquid to flow from the source of liquid into the reload chamber and prevents liquid from flowing from the reload chamber towards the source of liquid. There is means for storing pressurized liquid connected to the second passageway for storing pressurized liquid displaced below the piston, as the piston moves downwardly, and to assist in raising the piston and, accordingly, liquid contained within the piston rod, to pump liquid upwardly and through the first passageway.

Apparatus and methods for performing process simulation using a hybrid model

The invention provides an apparatus and methods for performing process simulation and structural analysis using a hybrid model. For example, a method of the invention automatically defines a hybrid solution domain by dividing a representation of a plastic component or mold cavity into two portions—a portion in which a simplified analysis may be conducted, and a portion in which a more complex analysis is required. The method may use as input any form of CAD data that describes the surface of a component or mold. Furthermore, the invention provides methods for simulating fluid flow within a mold cavity by automatically creating a hybrid solution domain, automatically discretizing the domain, and solving for the distribution of process variables within the solution domain.
