A method is provided for control of transition between combustion modes of a direct-injection engine operable in a homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) mode at lower loads and a spark ignition flame propagation (SI) mode at higher loads. The engine includes a variable valve actuation system including two-step high and low lift valve actuation and separate cam phasing for both intake and exhaust valves. The method includes operating the engine at steady state, with fuel-air-exhaust gas mixtures at predetermined conditions, for each speed and load, and controlling the engine during mode changes between the HCCI mode and the SI mode by switching the exhaust and intake valves between low lift for HCCI operation and high lift for SI operation. High load may be an SI throttled mode with an intermediate unthrottled mode (SI / NTLC} in which transition between HCCI and SI / NTLC modes requires switching only the exhaust valve lift and transition between SI / NTLC and SI throttled modes requires switching only the intake valve lift, with predetermined phase adjustments in the valve timing phasing.

Endoscopic imaging system and endoscope system

An imaging apparatus having an imaging device for imaging an object in cooperation with an endoscope is connected to a video processing unit for producing a standard video signal so that it can be disconnected freely. A signal delay occurs over a signal line linking the imaging device and the video processing unit. For this reason, a timing generator and a phase adjustment circuit are incorporated in the imaging apparatus. The timing generator generates driving signals used to drive the imaging device, and the phase adjustment circuit adjusts the phases of the driving signals so that an output signal of the imaging device will be input to the video processing unit according to predetermined timing. Even when the signal line has a different length from any other or the imaging device offers a different number of pixels from any other, the difference can be readily coped with owing to the imaging apparatus. This leads to alleviation of a load incurred by the video processing unit.

Scanning with multiple oscillating scanners

A method and device for managing and controlling a scanning system that incorporates multiple oscillating scanners is provided by the present invention. In accordance with the preferred embodiment, a resonant frequency is determined for each of the scanners. A drive signal for driving the oscillating scanners is generated based upon the determined resonant frequencies. An amplitude adjustment circuit determines the difference between the drive signal frequency and the resonant frequency of each oscillating scanner and adjusts the amplitude of the drive signal provided to that particular oscillating scanner such that scan amplitude of each oscillating scanner is approximately equal. The offset from the resonant frequency is also used to calculate a phase adjustment for the drive signal to insure that the oscillating scanners are operating in tandem.

Data-level clock recovery

A circuit for adjusting the phase of a clock signal. A first sampling circuit generates a sequence of data samples in response to transitions of the clock signal, each of the data samples having either a first state or a second state according to whether an incoming signal exceeds a first threshold. An second sampling circuit generates an error sample in response to one of the transitions of the clock signal, the error sample having either the first state or the second state according to whether the incoming signal exceeds a second threshold. A phase adjust circuit adjusts the phase of the clock signal if the sequence of data samples matches a predetermined pattern and based, at least in part, on whether the error sample has the first state or the second state.

Method and apparatus implemented in an automatic sampling phase control system for digital monitors

An automatic sampling control system for digital monitors. A clock generation circuit generates a sampling clock. A phase controller modifies the phase of the sampling clock by a phase amount. An ADC samples a frame of an analog display signal to generate digital samples. A value which is a function of the samples is generated. The function generally generates a larger value with correspondingly large sample values. The phase amount is modified for successive image frames until a maximum function value is generated. When successive image frames do not change substantially in image content, the phase amount represents the optimal phase change for the sampling clock. If the image content is changing substantially, the phase adjustment may be disabled.

A transmitter for use, for example, in an OFDM communication system transmits a plurality of signals simultaneously to one or more receivers. Each signal carries data. At the transmitter, a suitable phase vector is selected from among a plurality of available phase vectors to apply to the plurality of signals. Each available phase vector comprises a plurality of phase elements each of which corresponds to one or more of said signals and sets a phase adjustment to be applied by the transmitter to the corresponding signal(s). The suitability of each available phase vector may be judged based on a peak-to-average power ratio reduction achievable by applying the phase vector concerned to the plurality of signals. The selection of the suitable phase vector is initially limited to phase vectors belonging to a first set of the available phase vectors, and is expanded to further phase vectors outside said first set when no suitable phase vector is found in the first set. This can save processing burden in the transmitter.

Powered Glider Recliner Linkage Mechanism

A glider-recliner-style seating unit (glider recliner) that includes a linkage mechanism adapted to move the glider recliner between closed, extended, and reclined positions is provided. The glider recliner is powered by a linear actuator that facilitates automated adjustment of the linkage mechanism. This adjustment of the linear actuator is sequenced into a first phase and a second phase. A stroke of the linear actuator in the first phase acts to adjust the linkage mechanism between the closed and extended positions by extending or retracting ottoman(s) attached to a footrest assembly. A stroke in the second phase acts to adjust the linkage mechanism between the extended and reclined positions by translating a seat-mounting plate forward or rearward at a consistent inclination angle while, concurrently, tilting a back-mounting link. Accordingly, the phase sequencing ensures that the linkage mechanism commences adjustment within the second phase only once the first-phase adjustment is substantially complete.

Systems and methods of spatial image enhancement of a sound source

Reproduction of stereophonic audio information over a single speaker requires summing multiple stereo channels. When signals having approximately equal magnitudes and approximately opposite phases at a frequency are added together, the audio information at the frequency is lost. To preserve areas of potential cancellation and potential audio information loss, the audio enhancement system adjusts the phase relationship between the stereophonic channels. To avoid the loss of the spatial content of the stereo signal, the audio enhancement system determines the difference information that exists between different stereophonic channels. The audio enhancement system enhances the difference information and mixes the enhanced difference information with the phase adjusted signals to generate an enhanced monophonic output.
