A method for using a capture device to capture at least two video signals corresponding to a scene, includes: providing a two-dimensional image sensor having a plurality of pixels; reading a first group of pixels from the image sensor at a first frame rate to produce a first video signal of the image scene; reading a second group of pixels from the image sensor at a second frame rate for producing a second video signal; and using at least one of the video signals for adjusting one or more of the capture device parameters.

An embodiment of the invention provides a method and apparatus for registering two medical images with one another. A first medical image including a representation of a biological organ of a subject or for a population is obtained and the surface of the organ is identified in the first medical image. The identified surface is then used to construct a 3D geometric surface model of the organ. The geometric model is used to derive a motion model that incorporates information on the physical material properties of the organ and external forces that cause the organ to move and deform. A second medical image including a representation of the organ of the subject (or another subject, in the case that the first medical image is an atlas image) is obtained and an alignment is determined between a first surface normal vector field for the organ surface, derived from the geometric model, and a second surface normal vector field for the organ surface, derived by filtering the second medical image. The alignment accommodates deformation of the geometric model in accordance with the motion predicted by the motion model. The first and second medical images can then be registered with one another based on said determined model-to-image vector alignment (MIVA).

The present invention provides a novel method for culturing cells as well as a novel method for producing a recombinant protein by culturing cells at large scale (up to 1,500 L nominal volume and 750 L working volume), whereby an inflated bag provides a sterile, disposable cultivation chamber. The inflated bag is partially filled with liquid cultivation media and cells, and placed into a containment vessel. The containment vessel is positioned onto an orbitally shaken platform. The orbital shaking moves the containment vessel and thus the bag and induces thereby motion to the liquid contained therein (“shake mixing”). This motion (caused by orbital shaking) induces a dynamic force field that ensures cell suspension, bulk mixing, and oxygen transfer from the liquid surface to the respiring cells without damaging shear or foam generation.

A photosensor system is provided which includes a photosensor array constituted by two-dimensionally arraying a plurality of photosensors, a driver circuit for supplying a drive signal to the photosensors, and a controller for controlling a reading operation of a subject image and a sensitivity setting. The present invention provides a process for forming a porous dielectric film, the process comprising: forming onto at least a portion of a substrate a composite film comprising Si, C, O, H and Si—CH₃ groups, wherein the composite film comprises at least one silicon-containing structure-forming material and at least one carbon-containing pore-forming material; and exposing the composite film to an activated chemical species to at least partially modify the carbon-containing pore-forming material, wherein at least 90% of Si—CH₃ species in the as deposited film remains in the film after the exposing step as determined by FTIR.

Methods and apparatus for rapidly measuring pressure in earth formations are disclosed. According to a first embodiment of the apparatus, a probe is provided with a movable piston having a sensor built into the piston. According to a second embodiment of the apparatus, the pressure sensor is mounted adjacent to or within the piston cylinder and a fluid pathway is provided from the sensor to the interior of the cylinder. Methods of operating the first and second embodiments include delivering the probe to a desired location in a borehole, setting the probe against the formation, and withdrawing the piston to draw down fluid for pressure sensing. A third embodiment of the probe is similar to the second but is provided with a spring loaded metal protector surrounding the cylinder and an annular rubber facing. The third embodiment is preferably used in a semi-continuous pressure measuring tool or an LWD tool having a piston controlled bowspring and a piston controlled articulated member carrying the probe. A multiple bits per cell memory is operated by applying a one-pass, multiple-level programming, using a single pulse sequence one time (or in one-pass), such as an incremental pulse program sequence, with program verify steps for multiple target program levels, to program multiple bits per cell in a plurality of memory cells. Using these techniques, the number of program pulses required, and the time required for programming the data can be reduced. As a result, an improvement in programming throughput and a reduction in disturbance conditions are achieved.
